Sensei Kamohara
8th Dan Chief Instructor Shito-Ryu Shukokai Union Europe Arrived in St.Malo on the Friday morning by the Condor Ferry from Jersey and coming into the harbour we could see the walled town which never ceases to amaze me as it has a sort of Citadel appearance from the sea.
We quickly made our way to the Campsite by Taxi which for a very reasonable price includes baord, swimming pool, bar, pool table, table tennis and many other activities.
The mobile homes were actually quite good as well having plenty of space they had room for 4 people, shower, bathroom, cooker with plenty of cutlery.
So the Friday day was basically an intense game of Ping Pong with Eddie and then hit the pool and water slides and after having done it sitting, forwards and backwards we headed off into St.Malo town for dinner and drinks.
Paulina's is a Italian style place which does well........ Pizza and Pasta (very French) the other attraction is the stunning waitress who works there.
It was then on for more drinks and then the night gets a little hazy, someone speaking English someone speaking French, France winning their match in the World Cup etc
Ahh! the next morning I had a thumping
Beach Sparring
Ron's just checking to see if he can get away with cracking me in the nuts. head before even starting the Karate and the day consisted of learning two new Katas which I picked up pretty well considering my sorry state and then practicing of some of the moves within the Kata.
The practice partner of Sensei Kamohara was a French guy called Fabrice who never complains about being hit, thrown and locked up in all manner of painful ways. It was nice to see it demonstrated that way as you find if you be gentle it just doesn't work, you need to know it can be used but you have to go with it and Gerrard didn't, he resisted all the way even when he was on his knees so for the rest of the weekend he was nursing a sore wrist oops!
That evening we had a barbecue with plenty of drinks especially as Ron brought out his Canadian Whisky with pride so I sank most of the bottle and slept like a baby.
The next day I felt much better than I did the previous day having drunk more?
This time the training was only till 12:00 but did involve a fair amount of sparring which was great fun as it's always
good to spar with someone new for the experience.
Then we had to go and sit in the sea in some kind of mental strength training exercise which involved freezing your nuts off before bowing to the Sensei. On land this is not an issue but bowing in three feet of water is a little different.
All in all a great weekend with the lads with some training thrown in to shake off the hangovers.
We also now have a new Karate website so feel free to check it out if you ever fancy joining us!
