Moving south, we visited Tsitikamma National Park. Once again, we had an amazing campsite right on the waters edge. Mark spent ages trying to get the perfect wave shot! We've included a small sample for you!
A short hike- up and down some steep terrain ( of course), brought us to another suspension bridge over the mouth of Storms River. Man these climbs up and down are not for the faint of heart!!!!
The next day, we took another hike all along the coast line, ending up at a waterfall. We did some serious “bouldering”- to get there- but the view was stunning along the coast.
Our next hike was the winner of all hikes. This took place in the Robberg Nature Reserve, at Plettenberg Bay. There were two options for hikes- the short one- a mere 4 km return- was an easy hike -up and down of course, if you want to call that easy- along the top edge of this peninsula. Along the coast underneath us, we enjoyed many views of the seal colony- altho the smell- which certainly ascended to the top of the cliffs- was not so wonderful!!! Boy those seals surely
stink!!!!
At the turn around point of this hike, I was afraid to look at Mark- and sure enough- with good reason. Naturally, he wanted to continue on and complete the 10 km hike. We spoke to a local person at this point who assured us that the rest of the hike was pretty flat- an worth doing. OK- then- flat walks I like- it's just the hill climbing in the heat that I don;'t love so much. So off we went.
Well- I'm not sure if that guy went home laughing all the way, or whether he had never actually done the hike- but his idea of flat terrain needs some re-adjustment. Check out the pictures!!!! It was straight up- and straight down- just to continue on a mere 500 meters forward- OMG!!!!! The only hike worse than this one was in Wineglass Bay, Tasmania!!!!!! We scrambled up – and down- round and thru!!! It was something- and by the end- I was not saying very nice things..........
I had to take a rest when we got to the end and on the boardwalk- just so I could continue on to the car!
Next stop-
Knysa- (pron. N-eyes-na) Here we took a boat trip out to the Featherbed Nature Reserve. At the reserve itself there was a ride up to the top of the cliff, with an option to walk down the cliff back to the boat. Mark of course, opted to walk. Me- I rode down in the truck with all the infirm and elderly people!!! I was still aching from our “flat” jaunt the day before!
Our next stop was inland to the Klein Karoo area- which lies between two mountain ranges. Check out the big contrast in landscape- it's very dry and barren. We stayed in a town called Oudsthoorn- and upon arrival, noted that the outside temperature was 40 C. HOT HOT HOT!!!! We turned on the A/C
in the camper, and took off for the pool. Surprisingly, the pool was quite cook- very refreshing- but weird how it was so cool after this tremendous heat! Back at the camper, we stayed inside to write the blog,.....- and make phone calls. Around 5ish- Mark opened the door of the van- what a surprise! The heat had totally gone- it was a very pleasant cool temperature- turn off
the A/C- we didn't need it anymore! Even the next day- it was pleasantly cool. Amazing how fast it can change!
In Oudtshoorn, we toured the Cango Caves- and visted and Ostrich farm and museum. Needless to say, I declined to sit on the ostrich – that was an experience I did not need! Standing on the eggs was quite adventurous enough!!! They say an ostrich egg makes enough scrambled egg to feed 24 people! WE did not try it, but did eat ostrich fillet at a restaurant later that night. It's quite tasty, but not something I'd go out of my way to find!

What a trip you are having...enjoy sitting in the comfort of my house and reading your travels and adversities! Mark you are an incredible photographer! Amazing....thanks for including us!
