Hi there to u all out there. Well, a month has gone by so fast, that is the time I have been back in Europe so thought it time to finish off the South American journal before beginning the Europe Beach one. I finished the last segment in Ecuador after returning from the Galapagos Islands and after there Diana and I travelled north thru Colombia and took heed of everyones advise and tried to keep out of harms way. However, now we are safe here in Europe I have to report that we had our one really scarey moment of the whole trip in Colombia. We were on a bus travelling thru a relativly quiet area when our bus was the target of a road ambush and was pelted with rocks by striking indians, this was just before the election and they were protesting about lack of improvements in their life standards. There had been a road closure for several days but the bus company assured us all that all was ok. However when we reached the town in question we were all told to lie on the floor and draw the curtains etc so the people wouldnt see our blonde locks. The three of us and most of the locals did the same. Luckly the rocks only smashed the windows and no one was hurt. It was a big eye opener to Di and I about how close u can be to things of this nature. After this experience we took a diferent route to via a archilogical site of ancient stones of which the name escapes me, but we spent a great day there touring the site, then to Bogata and quickly made our way north to Cartagena and spent 5 days searching this quiant old city and having a last few days on the beach at Plaka Blanco and enjoying the remoteness there and laying in a hammock looking at the stars at night. After all this relaxing we then had a 60hour trip to Caracus, 5 buses and a taxi to the airport. Arrived with 3 hrs to spare to be told by Iberia that plane was full and they put us on a Aire Europa flight 8 hrs later. This has to be the worst airline ever, but Iberia ahave promised to reinburse us almost three quarters of the price of the ticket so heres hoping. We arrived in Amtserdam in the rain and a freezing 6 degrees after 35 degrees in Colombia. I caught a cold and after 3 days wandering there and visiting Leo in Belguim we travelled onto Manfreds in Austria and spent 10 days preparing the car which had been buried in 3 metres of snow all winter and last week left in glorious sunshine and headed down the

amazing journeys
spent my spring on the coast of oregon practicing medicine and learning how to surf on the glorious Pacific Northwest coast, then got in a tour of Scotland and spent some time in London and New York City before heading back to Denver. You are always a part of the stories I tell people about my trip to Venezuela. Will be telling them again as I prepare for a backpacking trip to the high country of Colorado for a service trip with the Sierra Club. Hope you are having wonderful times in Europe, on the plage and all that, thanks for keeping me linked to your marvellous journal. XXOO
