Imagine waking to this everyday
Not much to say about this place really.....

Great friendly hostel with awards to prove it and it proved to be lovely and social .....

Can't decide if that was genuinely because in an evening people would rather just stay in the hostel, which is located in an elevated position away from it all with the great views of the lake and hills and outside of the very touristy town centre ....or .....whether everyone was just too lazy to hike the hill up and down again after a full day and pay the shockingly high touristy prices for everything down there!!

Nevertheless we've really enjoyed a couple of nights here....supermarkets just next door so......Lamb Stew for dinner both nights with tea and biscuits..... Yum yum.....

Chilling on the deck taking in the stunning view of the lake (we never saw any but there are flamingoes, Liz has the pics to prove it!!) mind you the afternoon we wandered down, the wind was enough to blow us over never-mind those poor things with their stick thin legs x x x

Visited the glacier but no way could we justify the £90 cost to actually hike on it.......And

Another beautiful day
very pleased we didn't as it was so so so so so so cold........rain turning to snow...... But the ice was spectacular....

As one of only a few expanding glaciers left in the world, seeing the sight that it is, was really something.... It looks like a forest of ice stalagmites or stalegtites whichever is growing upwards......!!

When sections of ice break off and crash into the water it is like when they used to blow up those old power station chimneys and they came crashing down amongst a cloud of smoke ..... It all sort of happens in slow motion.....The most bizarre thing is the delay in the sound reaching you, which really does give you the sense of scale of the occurrence....

We took the boat too but honestly you get a better view from the platforms, so don't waste the money if you come..... £5 for 2 hot chocs but it was so cold I think I'd have paid double :D!

The one thing we'd have got real value for money from would have been a good flask.......

We'd definitely recommend hostel I Keu Ken, with it's resident ram, great views, comfy

.....and we thought about walking across this
beds and the great crowds that seem to stay there...

Special shout out to Anne, Wendy, Rebecca and Liz..... Enjoy the rest of your travels and thanks for sharing El Calafate with us

Lots of love
