Tejupilco, Mexico

Well we’ve left the smog of Mexico City… and are now staying with Javier (a friend of Sarah & Steve’s) in Tejupilco - a small town SW of Mexico City - in the mountains.. a beautiful setting. Javier has looked after us really well and is such a generous host!.. We arrived on Saturday and we were going to head off today, but he persuaded us to stay a bit longer, so we feel quite settled in this town for now,, and we’re almost local celebrities…. The local paper “El Nativo” interviewed us last night (with Javier as translator) about our travel plans and what we thought of Mexico (a little difficult to be very expressive after only a week in the country, but we talked about quesadillas and mountains!) so on Friday we’ll be in print (with photo ha ha!)



Sunday we went to a family “picnic” (not really a picnic.. the family turned up with table, chairs, paella, cake, drinks, music, TV and even a karaoke machine!!) for Father’s Day, so we met the whole family .. a few language difficulties, but we tried.. and even managed to play charades in Spanish… they let us choose the easy words.



The mountains here are beautiful.. peaks of up to 3000m .. and amazing views. We visited Valle de Bravo .. a lake that was created in the 1940s by flooding a valley.. and little village where rich people from the city go at weekends



Also visited Nachititlia national park .. walked for a bit, and learnt lesson number one.. always wear proper walking shoes.. I was wearing walking sandals, and was stung by a bee on my foot!



We vsited one of Javier’s English lessons at school and took questions from the kids for an hour or so.. they were really enthusiastic having 2 English girls to talk to, and gave us little presents.



Still trying to work out the difference between quesadillas, tacos, enchiladas, tostadas etc etc… but they all taste good so who cares! … have become vegetarian (when it suits!) so have an excuse not to try the pig skin .. or any of the fried insects we have seen (though I may be brave later)

Wow... I used to live in Tejupilco for a while. I didn't think anyone in the world would ever pass by that place randomly. But it is really pretty. It sits in a hole in the mountains. When you take the bus from Toluca, the whole trip is in the mountains and when you get there you wrap around the town to descend into it. It is a quiet place and very pretty and quite representative of rural Mexico.

My Family Is From Here!
My family is from here! They are the PORCAYOs and the MARCOS. It used to be a real small town but now its big. The church is beautiful and my grandmother (my name sake, Julia Macedo married to Reynaldo Porcayo) is always there! My parents met there but now are U.S. citizens and live in the States. As do I. I havent been back for ten years! I used to have relatives all over the place.

well, as other people said,i never expected that mi tejupilco had became so popular. i lived half of my life here in tejupilco,until a had to depart to us, dallas to be exact,but looking for something on the internet, i so the pictures about the interview with the gueritas, and i really felt something real good inside of me. i still have my mom and some of my sisters there. hey I was borned in Tejupilco all mi family is from there (family vences very popular there) and many of them live still there. I really miss walk with my friends arround el quiosko on sunday afternoon, aet antojitos mexicanos (popular mexican food) in the kermeses. I miss my school el CETIS and telesecundaria Sorjuana Ines De La Cruz and many more. I lived there until 17 years old and then I come to chicago, now and 21. in these 4 years i just have gone to Tejupilco one time and I really miss it. I have meeted people from there in here. I also miss to play in the la deportiva (a place to play), valle de bravo(i love it) los balnearios las ranas, los tamarindos (water parks). and many, many more. IF you have the oportunity to visit Tejupilco, do it. this is a beatiful place to relax and enjoy the life.

This website is awesome. My mother was born and raised in Tejupilco and my father born and raised in Palmar Chico which is another small town about an hour south of tejupilco. Though they moved to the U.S (chicago) for a while, they are back in tejupilco now. I visit every year and every time that I do there is no feeling quite like it. Hi. I'm a native of Tejupilco. I lived there 14 years and then moved to North Carolina. US. I'm now married to a beautiful American girl and have a son. I have a lot of memories about my hometown but a lot of the memories are fading. I hear every thing has changed so much in 15 years. But i hope to be able to visit Tejupilco again in the future and be able to bring my family for a visit. Tejupilco is a nice town. Just like a lot of the rural towns around it. There is alway something to do there. the thing I remember the most is how people were always out in the street. Most people don't own a car so getting around by public bus and walking is a common sight.

The beautiful land that saw my loving husband be born from. I have visited Tejupilco four times to be exact. It is very beautiful, the first time I went I fell in love. I was born and raised in Texas, and I had never ventured out anywhere from Dallas. That is until I met Mi Amor, he was born in Tejupilco but lived in San Miguel Ixtapan. If you have never been there I must warn you that if you get car sick, be sure to take many plastic bags with you for the drive from Toluca to Tejupilco. Once you arrive to Tejupilco you will forget about the drive and more than likely fall in love with the beautiful city. I hope to retire and move to my adopted home town someday, I wish I could raise my children there. My mother in law still lives there, and she is the most wonderful person in the whole world. Hello everyone, wow, I can’t believe that there is a blog about Tejupilco. I’ll be visiting the town within the next 4-5 days. I’m nervous and anxious about the trip. The last time I was there I was about 11 or 12 yrs old and I’m now returning with my 8 yr old child. It will be truly a unique experience for both of us, my 2 grandmothers live there; I’m very excited to see both of them. The majority of my family moved to Texas in the 80’s, me and some of my siblings were born there, but we grew up in Texas. I love visiting every year to tejupilco. Both of my parents are from there well Jalpa and Ixtapan. I love going to the balnarios Las Ranas Y Los Arcos. Tejupilco a great community
Tejupilco is great, it has change a lot lately, Juarez Street has been remodeled, it looks beautiful now. Downtown is getting better. Tejupilco needs also a bigger City Park for walking dogs or exercising. People is really nice, drivers are polite too, they stop and let you walk across the street or drive first, however be careful. Visit Tejupilco.
