For no particular reason, I think I will keep track of restaurants and shows and tourist attractions

Traditional Foods

• Goulash - fairly self explanatory, though it is common to get it not served as a stew
• Dobos torta - several alternating layers of cake and chocolate cream, a burnt sugar wedge on top
• Kürtőskalács (=chimney cake)- purchased in a metro station. I will have to wait for an actual fair and see if any Hungarians actually buy any
• Lángos - Klara gave me this as a snack one day, with sour cream and cheese. I added some peppers, as it was otherwise rather bland. Similar to other fried breads, I guess...
• Túró Rudi - not sure this really counts. I have had a few, though I can see why the plain version is more popular - otherwise you don't really taste the filling

Tourist Attractions

• the Castle museum - didn't seem like a particularly interesting place, unfortunately

Theaters

• Nemzeti Táncszínház (National Dance Theater): Sakk (=chess) - dance show
• Művészetek Palotája (Palace of Arts): concert of contemporary Hungarian composer
• Magyar Állami Operaház (National Opera House): La Fille mal gardée - ballet

Restaurants of Note

• Daubner Csukrászda - terrific pastry/cake shop in old Buda
• Vapiano - interesting Italian restaurant chain
• Kyoto - fairly upscale sushi place on the Pest side of the chain bridge, all you can eat menu on Sunday

chimney cake?
What is a chimney cake? Sounds intriguing but not particularly appetizing- could you describe it?
