That's where we are
We made it to Buenos Aires. Whee! The 14 hour flight went by quite fast, after we settled down in our tiny economy seats we fell asleep and slumbered through most of it. The last hour was accompanied by strong turbulances though which did not cope well with my stomach or my nerves. No puking but it was a close call! It took us a couple hours to recover from that shake up.

The city greeted us with heavy rain and we got quite soaked on the way to the hostel. We are staying at the really awesome Art Factory (http://www.artfactoryba.com.ar/en/index.html) in the neighbourhood of San Telmo. The rooms and hallways are all painted and designed in various styles and it's all very artsy-fartsy. I love it! Our dorm is located on the roof terrace and if the weather clears up, i will test the hammocks there (Check the photos!). Another big plus: hot water in the showers!

Our room was not ready yet when we got to the hostel, so we had to kill some time and went for a little walk to get some food. Luckily without rain this time. The traffic situation really overwhelmed us. Tons

of cars, horning, driving fast and recklessly, I thought the travel guide was kidding when they wrote to RUN over the crosswalks, well, they were not. The pedestrians are no less in a hurry though, masses of people rushing through narrow sidewalks. It was quite insane and tiring. Today though we experience a total different situation: the city was almost deserted and we could enjoy our first real tour through Buenos Aires a little more relaxed.

We checked out the "Microcentro", the city center, and walked around the main streets. We hit the Presidents Palace, the so-called "Casa Rosada", and got a free tour through the building, including the balcony, where Eva "Evita" Perón spoke to the crowd, or for the popculture nerds: where Madonna sang "Don't cry for me Argentina".

Grim's cultural corner: "You see control can never be a means to any practical end ... It can never be a means to anything but more control ... Like junk ..." (William Burroughs, The Naked Lunch)

Oh my!
That hostel looks brilliant! If I were there I\'d feared I wouldn't see much of the city. Except if there was a good view from the hammock :P Keep this blog updated so I have something to read with my morning coffees at the office :) Oh, and have fun down there!
