Hola! 😊
Well, yesterday was October 1st, and you know what that means! Market 2 Market!! I started my day out with Hayley at the beach and we started off on our run. We had no intentions of running super fast or hard, we just wanted to run for an hour. I have run on this beach every morning for the last month and it has been perfect every day for running, Hayley and I headed down the beach and it was SO WINDY! The sand looked like when it snows and then the wind blows really hard and there is this thin layer of snow blowing over the ground. I don’t know if I explained that exactly right, but hopefully at least the Nebraskans got the reference. Anyways, it was just really windy and we had sand all in our teeth and hair and embedded in our skin and stuff; it was a tough run! But, when we got to the half and hour point and we could turn around the wind was with us and I think we took 5 or 10 minutes less to get back down the beach than it took us to get up the
And After!
Is there much of a difference? beach!
We spent the hour talking all about running and our previous running teams and running coaches, it was really good. Hayley hadn’t really been training to run for a full hour so we stopped to stretch a few times. She apologized but I told her it wasn’t really about doing a full hour of running, it was just about going out for a run with her and doing it in honor of Kyle and my family and I was just glad she wanted to do it with me. My mom was able to send me a shirt and a red bandanna for her to wear and so she thought that was really cool and we took a before and after picture of us with our shirts and our red bandannas. I wanted to wear my shirt all day long, but it was kind of sweaty, but I wore my red bandanna all day in remembrance of Kyle.
After our run Hayley and I met up with her roommate Jerica and we went out for some juice, but they hadn’t had breakfast yet so they actually ate. We ended up sitting at the café for nearly 2 hours
talking. By that time we already had to head home to get showered and get ready for lunch!
I really didn’t feel like spending much time in the house yesterday. Hayley and Jerica (and actually the people at Chamara who have been so sweet to me) are the closest thing I feel like I have to family and know me the best so I really just wanted to spend the day hanging out with them. However, Pepa actually asked about my red bandanna because she hadn’t ever seen me wear it before. I finally told her about Kyle and why I had gone with Hayley for a run that morning. She was nice about it and felt bad that Kyle had died at such a young age and appreciated that I was wearing the red bandanna “por mandarlo” which literally means “to send to him” as in sending good thoughts, memories and blessings, so for us it would mean “in memory.” It was nice of her to show a small interest and I very much appreciated it.
So, contrary to my plan, after lunch I actually sat with Alba and Selu watching TV for a while and talking
Our runners!
Minus J-Dizzle + C-Train about music and movies. Alba said that the new “Twilight” movie was coming out in November and she really wants to go and we could go together if I wanted, so that was really pretty nice and I’m excited to go do that with her. I’m not traveling very much in November so I should be around!
I have a lot of trips planned for October, most of the weekends actually. This coming weekend is Portugal, then two days after I return from that is Paris, then I have a weekend here, then I go up to Santiago de Compostela and then the weekend after that API take us to Granada, then I am in Cádiz until December when I go to see Chiara! I actually just got done talking with my brother’s friend Evan (known to the fam as Evan Almighty) who is teaching in Paris this year and he has some really, really fun stuff planned for when I come in two weeks so I am really excited! Busy fall, but it should be really fun! And I am hopefully going to start riding soon. I found two really, really nice trainers, I just have to choose
Market 2 Market
Can you see Kyle behind UB and Hayley and I behind Sean? one which is the really hard part.
I’m posting a video of one of the trainers I went to visit, Carlos. He is very nice and a really good rider. I met with him on Friday. I also met with a friend of his, Esteban, who is the other trainer. Esteban is also a really great rider and said that I could even ride his horse if I train with him. The only thing is that he is actually only 20, which is my age, so that is sort of an awkward situation I think that my trainer would be my age, but he has been really nice and helpful to me. He invited me to come and watch a horse show today at his barn, and actually Carlos and his students were competing there as well, so I got to see both of them.
On my bus ride home from the show I got to talk with my mom, my dad and G-ma Heiden! Mom told me a bit about the race and it sounds like my family had a really, really great time! I am so happy for all of them and proud of all they
Hard at Work
Juan our director is always fighting with someone about something for us. He is our superJuan! Hayley is also concentrating very hard. did yesterday! I got to Skype with Heather today…for two and a half hours…and so I got to hear all about the shenanigans in the van and throughout the day! There is never a dull moment when Sean, Bret and Conor are together. 😊 I really wished I could have been there with them yesterday, but it sounds like it was an awesome time. Aunt Terri sent me e-mail updates a few times throughout the day, but I wanted to call so bad to talk to everyone! I’m sorry the Huskers lost…what a pity. But did anyone catch the Clemson game?!? Hey, hey, hey! Still undefeated! I can’t believe I leave for a year and suddenly they are doing amazing. Ugh. I knew this would happen, I just knew it. They better be good next year too! 😊
Let’s see, what else has gone on.
There really hasn’t been much happening! I made my final decisions on my classes and I will be taking Spanish Pragmatics, Hispanic Literature of Oral Tradition, Romance Linguistics and Roman Mythology and Religion. I was only planning on taking three classes, but Mythology sounded pretty cool and in the chance that Pragmatics is a
The Lib
Our library difficult as my professor made it sound and I do not pass, at least I will still come home with three classes worth of credits. I also know you may be thinking, “How are you ever going to study if you are traveling and riding all the time?” Well, the answer is that the bus/train/plane rides are not so exciting that I can’t read…so that is how I plan to balance everything! Wish me luck! Hahaha!
And, I have to give a shout-out to Dillon and Braden! Thank you so much for my video message today…it actually made my morning 😊 My family was probably wondering why I was laughing so early in the morning.
And Kate, thanks so much for the nice message today 😊 It was nice to hear from ya!
I will talk to you all soon!
Love always,
Devin 😊

Those legs...
Devin, Truly epic day on both sides of the pond! It was truly an adventure and I'm glad that you and Hayley were able to partake in our por mandario sojourn. There truly was never a dull moment, but i wonder if the photographer could've taken that pic at a more inopportune time. Hey, at least the Euros aren't afraid of a little skin. Love, Sean aka Hot Legs
