Edit Blog Post

This is my first entry in this wonderful blog of mine which I will be updating a few times a week from now on.

This will be my first long term backpacking trip and I am planning to cross the planet overland (I'll take flights only accross oceans) for 12 months or until money runs out. I like overland travel because it gives a better oportunity to go to places you wouldn't see if you just took the plane from capital to capital. My current itinerary is as follow: Canada 1 week, Hong Kong/Macau 1 week, Philippines 3 weeks, China 2 months, Nepal 3 weeks, India 3 months, Pakistan 1 month, Iran 2 weeks, Turkey 1 month, Lebanon/Israel 1 month, Eastern Europe 1 month, Western Europe 2 weeks. Even though it looks like I have planned everything out, it is definately not set in stone and I might end up in places I hadnt planned to go or stay less/more time in a country than I had originally planned. I will be on a pretty tight budget as I am a still a poor student so I'll be sleeping in hostel, use local transport etc.

I am more than ready to leave for my trip. I got my degree a few weeks ago, I transfered the lease of my apartment 2 weeks ago and have been living at my friend JP since (which is a good thing since it is sorta a training camp for third world hygiene standard 😊 ), I got all shots that I needed (Hepatitis A, tetanus, polio, diphteria, thyphoid, rabies, japanese encephalitis) and I bought and packed all my gear.

I am leaving tomorrow on the 9th from Ottawa and will go directly to Vancouver by bus. This will (hopefully) be the longest bus ride I'll ever take. I'll leave Friday at 16h30 and arrive in Vancouver Monday the 12th at 8h05AM I am meeting a few people in Vancouver for professional reasons (I'll probably do my graduate studies there when I come back) so I'll stay there until the 15th and then take a direct flight to Hong Kong.

I'm still trying to figure out how to add pictures and stuff, but as soon as I do I'll put them on.

I hope you enjoy this blog! Expect the first "real" update Monday the 12th.
