We were welcomed into New Hampshire by a State Liquor & Lottery store. You may ask why it is such a big deal but New Hampshire only sells liquor in state run stores and has no sales tax, very similar to Oregon. We had to stop as Pete and Kris had a bet on a NBA game that Kris lost so he owed Pete a bottle of whiskey. Plus the town we were headed to may not offer this so we had to stock up.
The traffic from Boston to Sugar Hill was a little more than we had expected and I drove through a crazy rain storm that many drivers pulled off the road but I just slowed my speed down and kept on going. We arrived at Pinestead Lodge and checked in quickly as Jimmy & Cali were having all the guests over for a BBQ at 5pm. It was already past 6pm. We freshened up and changed quickly and were on our way.
Cali's parents vacation home was amazing as the original part of the house was built in the late 1800s. The land is beautifully landscaped with gardens all around and a unique stone wall.
The BBQ, Wedding and Reception were all held on her parents land. Which we came to find out was Cali's dream to get married there since her parents bought the house 12 years ago. We had amazing food and the dessert was ice cream treats...which Pete had his 1st ever Klondike bar, he was quite excited about that.
At the end of the BBQ we had to clear out the tent of any garbage as black bears are in the area and would to rummage through any leftovers. Since the reception was in the same tent as the BBQ this would not be a good thing to wake up to the morning of the wedding. We helped the bride and groom so they could get to bed enjoying their last night of single hood.
Where we were staying at the Pinestead Lodge was an old farmhouse converted into a 4 suite lodge. Each suite had either 2 or 3 bedrooms, a kitchen, living room, eating area and bathroom. The entire home was rented out to friends of the bride and groom. We partied with all the doors open so everyone could mingle...the 4 of us soon became known
as the "China Friends" Jimmy & Cali warned us that their friends liked to party hard but we were proud to say that we kept up with them and had just as much fun.
The morning of the wedding was quickly spent by cooking an amazing breakfast in our suite and hiking to the top of Bald Mountain. Pete and I wished we had more time to hike around the mountains more and see all the area had to offer but it just makes for another trip to New Hampshire later in our lives. With Cali's parents having that amazing vacation home we can see a "China Reunion" in the near future in NH.
The wedding was beautiful and very fitting for the couple! Each of Jimmy's 7 siblings played a part in the wedding along with Cali's 2 siblings. Both Father's read in the wedding and the mother's wrapped a ribbon trying Jimmy & Cali's hands together...this was neat as I had never seen that before in a wedding ceremony. Next, was cocktail hour and then on to dinner. Jimmy & Cali are both vegetarians and the dinner menu was all vegetarian (another wedding 1st for us)
but it was amazing food and the drinks flowed all night long. They had a live band play classic rock and the dance floor was packed all night long.
We had such an amazing time in New Hampshire celebrating Jimmy & Cali's wedding and wish them the best on their new journey as husband and wife. We Love You Guys and are grateful we were able to celebrate your special day with you guys!
PS Thanks for having your wedding in a state neither of us had ever been to..making it 13th for Pete and 39th for I.
