After deliberation, we decided that arriving at the Sac airport 3 hours early was a little excessive. Instead we arrived 45 minutes before boarding, and made it to the gate with plenty of time to spare. Despite the little hiccup where I forgot to print my boarding pass, we successfully checked each of our 30lb backpacks (ok, we’re over packers. So what.) and managed security and navigating the terminal were a breeze. Wow! This is going to be easy. And we even arrived in Dallas/Fort Worth 30 minutes early. You would think this smooth start to our day would precursor our amazing travel wit. We waited around for our backpacks at the baggage claim, until we noticed that no one was still waiting and the belt had stopped. Here is when Mary and I decided that lost bags are no laughing matter.
So we decided to ask the baggage service. They asked for our claim tickets and informed us that our bags were already being transferred to our next flight. Clearly, both of our parents were wrong about getting and re-checking bags in Dallas. Note: This event occurred in America. I can only imagine how hard it will be when all the signs are in French…
Once we lugged our small duffels carrying precious paperwork and a library of guide books to the international terminal, we got overpriced burritos that were far from fulfilling. Called our parents for our last good bye’s and practiced a little airport/train station French phrases.
On the flight over, Mary and I established some important traveling ground rules to avoid any re-make of the movie Taken:
1. If anyone asks where we are staying, we name a hotel nearby.
2. Carry money and passport in our underwear and/or shoes.
3. No sex.
4. It’s perfectly fine to have wine every night, but keep it classy.
5. Learn how to say 2 swear words in the local language.
If you have any other recommendations, please feel free to comment.

A une aventure incroyable. Bon voyage!
