This camera is even nicer, and as my friend said, the next thieves will appreciate the upgrade.
The new camera arrived last week via New York via Idaho via Salvador. Suffice to say even if this one is lost with haste, it will not be due to lack of diligence on my part as I will be duct taping it to my head.

The classes continue, and things are beginning to ramp up for World Cup. Hopefully Brazil doesn´t lose at the first group as after all this investment it would be quite an embarrasment (although it´s highly unlikely).

The attached pictures were mostly taken at Joses´ family´s farmhouse (or sitio) - many of middle class here in the cities have an apartment in the city and a country home outside of the city. As it was Jose´s birthday we stayed over for the weekend and barbaqued for two days. I may have eaten an entire cow.

This is at my friend´s farmhouse - notice the giant agave looking thing in the foreground (it´s roughly as tall as I am) and the flowering stalk in the background is probably 50ft tall.

This plant is all over the place - notice the giant spike protruding.

I´m clueless to the origin of this, but believe it has something to do with the "baile funk" music group in the title...

Biodiversity here is impressive, but unfortunately the more interesting species were more camera shy.

the flower
that flower is one of my favorites, though i've never seen one cut....beautiful. i'm sure glad you got another camera, not that your writing wasn't good enough, but hopefully this one stays for a while, and you can record more memories for yourself and hey, i hope you ate some of that cow for me too!
