Peterhof

Today we (Hazel, Pete and me) were off to a place called Peterhof. We travelled on a minibus for about 45 mins with Pete sat up front with the driver and me and Hazel sharing one seat, the Russians don't appear to stand up for ladies !!
So Peterhof was the summer residence of the emperors in days gone by. Very grand indeed with a palace and several smaller "outhouses" that were for the lesser dudes, all decorated in the usual gold, gems and such stuff. There are fountains everywhere which really are amazing, hopefully my photos will show them in good light.

We had our picnic sitting in the gardens, accompanied by thousands of mozzies !!! bitten to bits we was !!! Pete really really hates them, and was great entertainment doing the 'mozzie get off me dance" much to me and Hazel's amusement. Then there was a little walkway with sculptures of large flowers which was surrounded by a little pathway and as you walked around it, there was intermittent jets of water sprayed on you. Obviously there were lots of small children having a great time trying to dodge getting soaked. ............ Well it seemed rude not to, so yes we all tried out luck and trying to dodge the water, but we never managed it once ????? until Pete spotted a small hut hidden in the bushes, It would appear there was a very naughty Russian person with sadistic tendencies who was in control of the water jets after all !!!! cheeky : )

So we were soaked, me more that the other two, and it wasn't the warmest of days so to cheer me up we had a large bar of Russian Aero type chocolate and I soon had a chocolatey smiley face again.

We decided it was time to go home. We arrived at our hostel to be greeted by Roman another host in charge of the hostel who was very chatty and was happy to show us his scars from being shot by the Chechnians in the war a decade ago. All the hosts are very friendly and helpful here.

Out to eat in veggie restaurant, where we had 4 courses all Russian, savoury doughnut type starter with potato and cabbage, a soup with Sorrell, red pepper, carrot, onion, soft cheese and herbs ....... ooooo delicious, then I had, a potato, cabbage, cheese and onion type of rosshi, and to finish, a deep fried type of cheesecake swilled down with vodka and orange ......... all for £16 !!!!
