Is it worrying that I was lying in bed earlier trying to work out what day it was? It took em about 5 minutes to finally come to the firm conclusion that it was Wednesday (this was without using an electrical device that would've been able to tell me immediately.)

Anyway today I decided that I would go to the real reason that I came to this island in the first place. A nature reserve and beach on west coast. I thought from the map that they looked about 3-4km from the hostel. This proved to be rather wrong. I got to the nature reserve rather hot and tired. I saw a sign when I got there pointing back the way I came and saying Den Burg 6km. On the same sign it said De Koog (where the beach is) 2km. So all told I cycled 16km today when I thought I'd be cycling tops of 8. Not that it bothered me

Anyway the nature reserve wasn't what I was expecting it was more of a sea life centre/bird and seal sanctuary/dune reserve. The sea life centre was relatively interesting in a sort of seen it all before way. The seals were nice, unfortunately they were undergoing rennovation work which meant they didn't have their full compliment of seals and that in the tank which was designed so that visitors ould see underwater so filter wasn't working yet which meant that the water was really cloudy, meaning you couldn't see inside. I went for a nice 4km stroll through the dunes had lunch whilst out there, then got back to the seals in time for their feeding. All very interesting.

I then cycled the 2km up the road to the beach. Read whilst lying in the sun for an hour or so, then decided that it would be a completely stupid but fun idea to go for a swim in the sea. From this experience I have deduced 2 important facts.
Number 1: The sea in April is cooooooold
Number 2: I'm an idiot for even considering for one moment that it would be a good idea.

Ah well no permanent harm done.

Tonight is my last night on Texel. Tomorrow I go back to Amsterdam before going to Delft for the day and then catching the overnight coach to Berlin.

Well done for the cycling, walking and swimming - a sort of triathlon! And all very adventurous given that most people wouldn't have thought about going that far off the beaten track. xx
