Pass Mt.
We started at 9:00 am and hiked around that whole mounain in the background Hello all! Boy, am I happy to be here today! I think Bob and Allie are pretty happy too... We left yesterday morning to do a hike that we had just heard about the other day. There were several hikes that started out of Usary State park that looked like really good ones to take. We heard of a place to park away from the park, so we found that and headed out at 9:00 for parts unknown having forgotten to take the park hiking map (yikes!). It was a fairly cool day and a pretty easy hike, so we started out strong and got some great pictures. We didn't have any idea what we had gotten ourselves into until about 3 hours into it. We found out from some hikers coming from the other direction that we were at the halfway point. You following this?!? 3 hours. Halfway. Not good. We got to Usary park and planted in one of the ramada's very inviting shade and concrete picnic tables. Allie flaked out flat on the cool concrete floor hoping we would follow through on our threats to either hitch a ride with someone or call a cab to meet us
Our goal
This was the first spot we had as a goal. Looks farther than it actually was and it was an easy hike. at the park gate... We looked at the map and discovered we still had 2.4 miles to go before we hit the truck and considered the threats once again - but then saw a couple that we had met going the other direction arriving back at the parking lot. Hey! If THEY can do it WE can do it! So, we headed out again. Not too many words spoken. There was serious panting and occasionally more obvious protesting from the monster dog announcing her disapproval of our decision. We did make it back to the truck and ultimately back to the RV. Both of us burned, all 3 of us sore and ready to collapse. The inside of my chins/ankles have huge patches of broken blood vessels. At least that's what I think it is. It started up in Stanwood. It would happen on hot days when I was out gardening. It won't be gone for a couple of weeks - it's pretty disgusting if you ask me, but what do you do? We were all drinking a lot of water and stopped for lunch at that horrible halfway point. It was hot but not over 80 and there was
What a view
This is just a portion of the panorma that I took from up there. It was really beautiful. a nice breeze most of the day. I guess 7.5 miles is just too much for us right now. It did give us some great photo opps and I got to use our new camera. It was really nice to be able to take it along and not have that honkin Olympus hanging around my neck the whole trip. Hope you like the pics!
Well, we leave Apache Junction on tomorrow for Sedona. I can't wait to do some hiking there! Well, I can wait.... but I'm looking forward to the trip to the change in scenery. We'll be boondocking in the same area that we went last year. I'll post pics when we land.

Wow
You two are doing what so many people dream of doing, yet never do. Good for you. I love hearing about your adventures (and trials). Love you both. Dianne
