Welcome
We are on official countdown to our big trip that you all have been hearing about for what seems like forever to us. Hopefully you received an invite (still not totally sure how all of this works)...accept the invitation if you would like to receive our updates as we travel the Islands, and don't worry about it if you don't; we won't take it personally. We just hope to be able to share the adventure we are embarking on with all those who are interested.
Right now we are scheduled to leave on March 9, around 7PM from San Francisco, and land in New Zealand 13 hours later (ugh) on friday morning the 11th. We'll spend our first two days in Auckland, on the North Island, then travel down to Christchurch (South Island) by plane on Sunday morning to pick up our camper van. We have reservations for a campsite that night on the beack outside of Christchurch, and then the adventure really begins.
I just heard that Christchurch was hit by a big earthquake, a 6.3, that was followed 15 minutes later by a 5.6. This in the wake of a 7.1 that hit in September. Unfortunately damage seems to have occured, but we'll keep our eye on developments over the next couple of weeks and hope for the best.
Looking forward to sharing lot's of photos and perspectives once we get going. The countdown is on

Okay... I have signed up for this trip...
Hi, Pete, Hi, Wendy Rae, I signed in to the other travel blog site, as well... it seemed pretty complicated... this one feels more comfortable. That's a great photo of you two - have fun and be careful. I am looking forward to your photos and comments along the way. Thanks for bringing me along... Frank
