Day 11
This is our last night in Xi Shuang Ban Na, tomorrow we are flying to Kun Ming until friday, then it's back to Beijing on Friday and head home on Sat.
Today was pretty cool...first stop was a JiNuoShan Village. This village was a way better than the other villages we went to yesterday. The JiNuoShan were found in 1979 so they have had much more time to develop themselves and seem to be doing very well. They make their money solely on tourism. They have opened up their village to the public to see their way of life.
One of the interesting things that I have learned is unlike the rest of China, girls are very important and the boys are less significant. There is no limit on how many children they can have either. In this village, the mothers brother is the leader of the family.
After we toured the village leaders house they sat us down and gave us some snacks (ham, pineapple, sweet potato, bananas). Oh and right before the show was to start they came out and handed us a drink in a shot glass. What to do?... I had to drink
13 Days in China
Older Man in Village! it right? lol It was the strongest something or other I have ever tasted! It made me shudder big time. It was almost like getting a shot of Demerol or something ha ha...I felt it immediately!
Next stop was a tea factory. We toured the factory then had a afternoon tea Chinese style. Pretty cool! They have some great ways to make tea.
Next stop...Elephant Village. First our driver took us to some little place to have lunch. Not quite as dirty as yesterday's kitchen. Food was great! So this is gross but I have to share it.....we decided to go to the bathroom before entering the park. BIG MISTAKE! I'm still traumatized by the experience! Ok so you go into the bathroom...(.keep in mind we still talkin squat toilets)... So anyway you walk in and their are 3 holes in the ground. Not like regular squatters that you saw in my blog earlier...just holes. Oh they had tile around them but no water! No flush! No bowl! No stalls! Just straight down to the ground with years of everyone else's stuff. Disgusting! The ammonia smell was so bad I had to hold my breath! I couldn't wait
13 Days in China
When you get up close you realize she is a woman...Do you see it? to get out of there! I think I forgot to mention that the none of the bathrooms have paper products or soap so you have to carry your own around with you.
After my horrible experience we went into Elephant village and walked the long wooden bridge through the rain forrest. We looked for elephants but no luck! So no pic of me and Tracy on elephant's sorry!
Had a blah dinner tonight and just relaxing before out flight tomorrow. Oh I forgot to mention that last night we went to a western restaurant and they had pizza. I was so excited to order it and 10 min later they came back and told me they ran out. Guess I'll have to wait until I get home.
Eating out in China is very cheap! Four of eat dinner or lunch for about 135 yuan which is about $25.00 That includes beer too. Food here in China is not for the weary...or should I say bathroom as well..but I have enjoyed every second of out adventures!
Until tomorrow.....
