Day 2, 3 and 4
Day 2
This day was the day we went to the great wall...what a climb! It was so intense my calves were burning. It was so steep in some parts that if you would have look at us from the side we would have been walking almost vertical. It was a tough start to a long day especial when we were still suffering from jet lag. What a cool opportunity to be standing on the great wall of China!
Our next stop was a marketplace that was about 5 levels of everything you can imagine: luggage, shoes, clothes, silks, tea pots and most importantly purses where we spent the next two hours haggling over the prices of them. Luckily we had Lan with us and she was so good at getting them down. We all bought purses and I got my knock off Louis Vuitton bag and wallet for a good deal! This marketplace was worse than any Mexico shopping I have done......they did not give up on trying to get you to buy things. They were so forceful that when you said no they would gently take you by the arm and and pull
13 Days in China
Tracy and I on the Wall you back into their store. The prices started ridiculously high. My bag started and 2500 yin and my wallet at 500 and I got them for 500 and 300 which totaled to about $100.00. It was a great time to be had!
Then we went to "Chinese Restaurant row" and had dinner. I had some more weird and strange foods. I'm trying so hard to open my horizons and eat new things. Everything has tasted about the same at this point and I getting a little tired of funny looking meat and slimy vegetables. ha ha. Tracy and I went back to the room that night and ate some good ole american beef jerky. It was a long day!
Day 3
Today we went to "old town" It is the oldest part of Beijing and at one time a street of old houses... now cute little shops. We went in and out through many shops it was so much fun! My kind of vacation! We did eat in a Japanese restaurant that was a little different and had real pieces of meat yay!
Next was The forbidden city in which we must have walked 2 miles
within the city . This place was huge! Way too big for one guy! It was pretty cool but I would have to say that my memories rides more with the nasty squat toilet I had to use there. Imagine the worst public restroom you have ever been to and times that by 10. For those of you who don't know.... they most have squat toilets in China. I will enclose a pic for you so you can empathize with my...( oh not of the nasty ones, one of the clean ones). Then we walked another mile to Tiananmen Square. It was not that much to see but cool to know you where in the same place where history has taken place. It is more of a place where lot's of people gather for special events or holiday celebrations. This week being Chinese New year and the year of the rabbit.... they had big jumbo trons with dancing rabbits. Pretty weird!
Final stop for the day was the Teahouse for dinner. This is a famous teahouse were President Bush has been as well as many other diplomats from all over the world. I ate fried anchovy on a
stick...... kinda good We were supposed to stay for a Chinese cultural show but we all were so exhausted and had to get up the next morning at 5:20 to start our next journey to south china in the Yunnan province.
We took a long subway ride back to the hotel and walked another mile just to get there.
Okay I can't write anymore I'm falling asleep and know that what I'm writing sounds boring even o me lol. I will continue tomorrow with day 4...We flew about 1000 or more, 2 airports and 3 planes miles and are now in the town Li Jiang which is one of the coolest places I have ever been! Pic's tomorrow you will love it!
