Well after our rather "interesting" spiritual experience, we have been enjoying Kerala in our own very serene way. We arrived in tiny Kollam on the 1st of this month after our very first bus ride which left us both with headaches. Note to self, do not sit right behind the driver again as he will most certainly be suffering from honk-itis, a very common Indian disease which involves the patient constantly "sounding his horn", be it to warn people, be annoyed at people, make people move, make people stop or quite simply for the hell of it. Anyway, we wandered along the beach along with many little crabs and made sure we got plenty of food into our poor empty stomachs. The next day, we hired a little canoe boat and were taken all round the tiny little canals which make up the backwaters. We (Julia) very unsuccessfully wove some coconut fibre rope, drank chai, learnt about plants and fruit and birds and got pretty flowers put in our hair. Another boat ride the next day, an 8 hour long one at that, took us up to lovely Alleppey, a tiny little almost-Venice-like place. Today, we got on another bus - a scramble to say the least - running up to the moving bus, physically shoving people out of the way and hopping on a bus we weren't even sure was the right one! Anyway, after a very bumpy/loud/dirty ride, our bashed selves were dropped somewhere in Ernakulam and a final (standing) bus ride later, we arrived in Fort Kochi. The plan here is to go to an elephant training camp at 6am tomorrow, go to a Kathakali show and spend a day at the beach so stay tuned!
