Am back at school again after a weekend at the beach. We went to Monterrico which was about 2 and a half hours away in a shuttle bus - it was nice to see some more of Guatemala on the way. It was about 10 degrees hotter than Antigua in Monterrico so well into the 30s. The sand is black there as it contains volcanic ash.
We spent most of the time chilling out on the beach in hammocks and some time in the waves, we couldn't swim properly though as the waves were too strong - once I was pulled over by one! We went to see baby turtles being released back into the sea as the sun set, and got up at 5.00 on Sunday morning (which wasn't easy!) to go on a boat trip up the river as the sun rose. We didn't see as much wildlife as I was hoping but it was great to see the volcanoes at dawn.
Back in Antigua it's still pretty warm and I'm about to have a salsa lesson at the school in an hour - could be a disaster with my lack of coordination!
