Ciao, Amici.
I survived my first weekend in Rome, and it was a blast. Contrary to I envisioned my first Italian weekend was mostly based around the football playoff games. Half of my roommates are Patriots fans (and yes, I do rub it in their face that the brownies beat them) and one is a Seahawks fan. So, we inured late nights of games going off at 10 and 2 Rome time. It was a struggle but the celebration atmosphere made it easy for me to make it to the wee hours in the morning. On Sunday, I made up for my lack of sightseeing. I would like all to know that I am one for one on attending Sunday mass during my stay. And I do not want to brag but my neighborhood church is the Vatican. I saw the pope and did not understand any words he may have said but it is an experience I will never forget and plan on making that a weekly occurrence. I planned on an ‘Americanish’ day. Attend church hung over and lay around until football comes on but my roommates did not allow that to happen. From mass, we headed to the coliseum and it was truly amazing. It was not much smaller than Browns stadium but there were probably more people there. We pretty much chilled on that side of town all day, eating lots of food and trying multiple flavors of gelato. Now that I am back to being a church goer, on the 7th day, I rested and tried to get ready for my first week of classes. The plan was going well until I was awoken in from my coma at 1:30 am from my roommate Brian, literally on top of me forcing me awake to watch the 4th quarter of the game. It was all in good fun and on the day of the tribe opener, I will get my revenge. As I start classes this week, I somewhat leave the pure vacation mode we have all been in. I am in an intensive Italian class that meets every day of the school week, which is only till Thursday. Later on tonight, I have soccer try outs and wish me luck. I cannot believe, I have been in paradise a full week and look forward to sharing this experience with all of you.

Sean, Couldn't be happier for you. What wonderful rich experiences you've already had in just a week! The amazing part is how at home you are there, as if you've been there your whole life. Keep the blogs coming as we all have to live vicariously through you right now...and remember, we're in the dead of winter here in Cleveland! Can't wait to hear about school too! xo Aunt helen & Uncle chuck
