David and I headed for Rome to pick our Son up who was flying from Melbourne to Rome via Yes Heathrow.
We had to leave the 3 others with David’s Aunty because the night before the snow had closed Autostradas and cars were trapped in traffic jams all night in the freezing cold. There were pictures on the news of families with little children trapped all night. So we didn’t want to take that chance, our family showed us another super strada that would get us direct to Rome and near Fumicinio away from Florence were all the traffic was still held up.

So of we head late the day before we have booked Holiday Inn near the airport so we can be there bright and early to get him and head home. Alex was held over in Singapore for 12 hours that’s okay we can cope with that. So there is nothing we can do so we went into Rome for the day to see friends who had just arrived.

I have never been to Rome so the 1st thing David says to me “don’t look

like a tourist” as I have to pour over the little map the hotel has given us to find the Colosseum (which we have 5minutes to get to because David told Bernie we were only 5minutes away). It can’t be that hard to find such a big round structure that has been there for a thousand Years. So we walk very fast in the direction we think it’s in. We pass the Mouth of Truth and then a few very old streets ( back the other way because we are walking in the wrong direction) and there it is.

But as I’m walking every second person has a map or the lonely planet guide to Rome in their hands, I don’t think I’m the only tourist David.

We had a lovely day and then we had tea in Plaza Novana which is lovely, it took our minds of our Son who was now in Transit to Heathrow were thousands of People were stranded in the Terminals in freezing cold temperatures. But I’m comforted by the thought of the lovely airline we booked him with would look after him. (NOT)
