Hi!!! Hope everyones ok, thaks for the messages guys!
Well.. picking up from where we left off. We awoke at 3 am with our pink alarm clock piercing our ears. Made our way down stairs without a fuss, crazily Bangkok hadnt come to a complete stand still and we flagged down a taxi within two minutes. After a good argument about the 'meter being broken' we got him to switch it on. He tried god bless hi, to get us to agree to 300 baht because 'thats what metre will say!' .. lo and behold it cost 160! It was a taxi ride of DOOM. 130 MPH all the way to the Don Meung airport and I had come to peace with the fact I was about to die, paul just laughed at me; 'Tell it to St Peter' I thought.
Thankfully we made it in peace, a good 2 hours early. As soon as the restaurants were open we were all over the ridiculously strong coffee and ham buttie - with crisps of course! The budget flight was pretty amazing for 50 squid each! No messing - straight on, and we even got breakfast! It only took an
hour and when we got there to my utter disgust it was RAINING, yes RAINING. It was the tiniest airport ever. With a huge sulk on we were throw into a mini van for a two hour journey to surat thani for the boat. By the time we arrived the weather was glorious. We jumped onto the boat securing a whole bench on the top deck just for us and arrived a mere 60 minutes later. The views of the jumping fishes and random islands were beautiful.
As we arrived in Koh Samui we walked straight out to the bay and were swabbed by a load of taxi drivers, turn out here they dont have meters - being tired we jumped in the first one who promised to take us up north for 400 baht. He drove us up to the beach and we jumped out having no where to stay. The bags were so heavy. We didnt wander far and settled on Mae Nam Bay - a hut that was situated in the middle of tropical gardens. Lolita the owner agreed to let us have a fan bungalow for 800 baht. We dropped our bags, grabbed two chang
beers and legged it 10 feet straight to the beach. It was so beautiful, acres of white sandy beach, palm trees and blue sea.
After a few hours of paul sleeping and me entertaining myself with my book (that I persisted to acquire strange looks about as I literally laughed out loud.. thanks linz, Sophie Kinsella really is the best) I woke him up with sand stuck to his face and went back to get changed. There wasnt much to do but we did fnid a cute cocktail bar on the beach mai tai and sex on the beach (oo eerr) left us a little giddy. We wandered a little further down and found fresh sea food restaurant. We ordered more chang of course with a sea food platter of crab, king prawn and tuna. Tom yam soup (octopus and prawns) and spring rolls to start. I stabbed myself with the crab - left that to paul and got another plate of sprin g rolls (im on holiday - im allowed!!).
We wanted to take a short cut up to the main road, turned out it wasnt such a bright idea. A dimly lit road and a random
horse blocking the road made sure we were totally freaked out and convinced we werent going to make it out alive!!! We asked a Thai guy who looked at us like we were being total wimps and told us wed have to pass the scary horse, we legged it and found the main road. Onto the 7/11 for a bottle of 4 casks whisky + coke then back to the bungalow. We sat on the front with the cards and got pretty giddy. Paul kicked my arse again (score is 20-9) and we were out by midnight. It was so funny though I bet we kept everyone up with our giggles.
Come 9AM Paul came to wake me up with an orange juice, hed been out most of the morning trying to sort our transport to Koh Phanghan. It turns out it was a little more complicated than we thougt. Lolita (whos english had suddenly got a little worse as paul tried to haggle the taxi fare) basically tried to rip us off - but gave away that wed need to get a boat from the port with the big budda. We packed up and made our way onto the main road trying to grab a taxi. Its abit quieter in samui and we had to wait a while but managed to haggle a taxi for a good 150 less than the wench at the bar quoted.
We reached the Budda and couldnt see any port, turns out wed come too far! We asked a local who kindly offered to run us down on the back of his mophead.. oh crap. He ran me first then went back for paulie. We'd missed the boat over, but managed to book the one for 1:30. Luckily there was a small outdoor market to rummage through next door. Meats, sea food and fruit, we had to get out of there when we saw the chopped up horse for sale.
We stumbled across a bar on the sea front offering English food (i know i know, but after the horse we couldnt stomach a street curry for breakfast!!) it was lovely and he was very friendly even informing us that the boat was in fact taking us to Thong Sala (a little up the road from Had Rin - were our booked accomodation is - but isnt a big deal a taxi wont cost much). We had lunch practically on the rocks surrounded by beautiful different coloured buttiflys and local fishermen. Paul had his usual - pad thai and I opted for a cajun chicken melt (.. the horse .. the horse) it was so good it made me miss english food!
With an hour to kill we found a beach front bar with buy 1 get 1 free beers and house music! It was heaven the sun was blaring down on us. With way to much beer enthusiasm we made ourf way to the boat. It was busy and we were stuck on the bottom deck but entertained ourselves really well for the 30 minute ride and was off in no time!
Next Stop KOH PHANGHAN!!!!!
