Just a short one for you, with our day in Pisa...
Day 71
Saturday, 11th December
Today we caught the train from Rome to Florence, unfortunately our camera hadn’t arrived before we left so we will have to make it catch up to us in Austria. The staff at the Hotel Aberdeen were really really helpful with everything, so no worries about it getting lost…
We arrived into Florence at 12.50pm and walked to our hotel, seeing the back streets of central Florence. We decided that while we were here we would look for some ski clothes and also train over to Pisa to see the tower. We had a look around the shops near the Duomo, but it was all pretty exy, we were on the next train at 3.30pm to Pisa (1 hour trip) but the scenery is beautiful. We arrived just in time to walk through the street markets to the tower. The sun had set but it stays light for a little while after so we had about 30 mins to take our photos, unfortunately we couldn’t climb it as it was too late…
It has been a challenge remembering to keep small change on us for emergencies, like the loo! We have had to find change quickly a few times now, as you would expect they don’t really like changing 50 Euros to pay 0.60 cents. We wandered back through the street markets, this time having a look around as we weren’t in a hurry. We stopped for Gelato and Mischa tried a chocolate covered Coconut bar (like a massive bounty), he seemed to enjoy it! Back at the train station, we saw a train leaving immediately and hurried to the platform, we were sitting on it when we realised it was one that made every small stop between Pisa and Florence, we saw that another more direct one was leaving from the same platform in 20 mins so we jumped off and waited for that one… it was dark anyways so you couldn’t see much from the train.
By the time we got back to Florence we were starving as we had skipped lunch, so we walked back to the square surrounding the Duomo (Dome), we rounded one corner and found a little sports bar that just happened to be showing a soccer match. They were advertising a Bruschetta, Lasagne & Roast Beef deal for 10 Euros, Mischa was up for this, Jess ordered a Penne pasta dish with a Tomato sauce. Suprisingly the food came quite quickly, Mischa got 1 plate with a tiny serve of each of the mentioned dishes (almost like an entree) and Jess got a large plate of Penne pasta, which she then shared with Mish who was still starving after downing his in 4 mins! The soccer match didn't end up being a big one, so we moved on for dessert somewhere else... We happened to come across a nice view of the Duomo (see pic) on the way back.
Mish spotted a pizza place (that was also a restaurant that seemed to serve large meals), he got a slice of pizza to go (the slice sizes here are much larger than at home!), and then while looking for a Gelateria we came across a McDonald's where we got different versions of McFlurry's to what they serve at home 😊 Both full and happy... Off to bed early with plans to explore more tomorrow...

Mcflurries
Hey Fletch, nice to see your still reading it!! :) anyways, Mischa had a Smartie McFlurry and Jess had a Chocorock (Cornetto) flavour. The Chocorock had icemagic topping with choc biscuit bits, nuts and choc flakes...nice apparently....
