So after arriving safely in Hue we went to visit the imperial city in Hue with a dutch couple Jan and Sophie who we met on the bus – other survivors of the crash!!!! We were all knackered but had some much deserved beers and went out for some nice Indian food which was a good change.

The next day the four of us booked a driver (very posh!) to take us around the sites in the DMZ (Demilitarized zone). This is the dividing line between North and South Vietnam; it’s where a lot of fighting took place during the war between North Vietnam and South Vietnam (and the Americans). There are supposed to be lots of unexploded bombs in the area and we saw a few victims of these bombs which was really sad. We visited the Vinh Moc tunnels quite near this divide where lots of Vietnamese lived during the war; an underground town this was really interesting. The whole day was a real eye opener and from all the war films we have watched about this war we had been under the impression that America had won this war and this was not the case at all – tough cookies these guys.

We visited a market on the way home; we had a good day and a laugh with Jan and Sophie. Back at the hotel another couple who Jan and Sophie had met previously was at our hotel; Joy and Earl a retired couple from Canada who were great too so we had a meal with them but had an early night we had to be up at the crack of dawn for another bus journey to Hoi An aarrgghhh….
