Luang Prabang is a world heritage sight and is probably the cultural capital of Laos. It's a very mellow colonial city and some of the main roads feel like they could be out of an old movie. We settled in to the slow pace of life for a relaxing 5 nights, eating good food (including a cook your own buffalo BBQ and Laos soup), browsing the night market, strolling the streets and taking a day trip to see the Kouang Si waterfalls.

Upon entering Kouang Si Waterfalls you're greeted by rescued bears having a doze, there is a long path which winds up to a huge beautiful turquoise waterfall, enroute there are 3 others, 2 of which you can swim and jump into from the top of the waterfall and by a rope swing. The water is surprisingly chilly! There is also a less tourist friendly path up the side of the huge waterfall, which allegedly led to the top. Jim ventured up to see if it was worth the trek, sadly at the top the bridge was broken so he couldn't reach the waterfall and for all his efforts ended up muddy and with an ant bite on his toe.

We also met up with Robin again and his new friend Asa. With them we woke up at a shockingly early 5am to watch hundreds of monks walk the streets receiving alms, collecting food from the locals (which they do every day), it was a very peaceful and enjoyable experience.

We had many adventures in Laos, found the people very friendly and welcoming and made some great new friends, so we were sad to leave. However, Vietnam was waiting ahead so we hit the road again not realising just how long it would take to get there...

Love a chilled out Jim and Carla.
