As faithful readers may remember, the main impetus for the trip to Scotland was to see John Barrowman in concert. For those of you who don't know of him, he's a singer/actor who has done shows in the West End and on Broadway. He had a bit part in the movies De-Lovely and The Producers and was seen on US TV in Desperate Housewives. Sci-fi fans will know him as Captain Jack Harkness from Dr. Who and Torchwood.

I bought the concert ticket before booking hotel or air, how crazy is that? But it all worked out, got a hotel right next door to the Edinburgh Playhouse.

The concert was quite good. JB (as he refers to himself) is absolutely gorgeous with an incredible voice. And he seemed to really enjoy being on stage. He did a variety of songs, and a lot of talking. Actually, that's my biggest quibble, he did too much talking. Show started at 7:30 and ended at 10:30 (with a 20 minute intermission), but I felt like he only sang for an hour. Part of that is due to the fact that he had a guest singer, a woman named Jodie Premger. From what I could gather of the conversation, she was a contestant on one of those (in my opinion, idiotic) reality shows where they gather a bunch of people together to audition for a role on the West End. She has a great voice and a knock out personality, but again, I could have lived with less of her and more of him.

The nicest part was when he sang a love song (I think title Remember When, but don't quote me on that), dedicated to his parents and they actually danced on stage while he sang.

The theater itself was nice and comfortable. Like London theaters, the dress circle (aka the mezzanine) level is ground level as you come in, the stalls (orchestra) seats are down one flight. I had a dress circle seat, far left, but it was a great view.

All in all, I'm glad I came to see it, but as I said, I would have liked more songs.

JB sang 20 songs during concert
Hi. Actually JB sang 20 songs during the concert (including 1 duet with Jodie). Jodie sang 4 solos. Yes he did a lot of talking as well, and if he hadn't the concert would have been shorter, but I think the banter was in addition to the music, not instead of it, as 20 songs is a hell of a lot for one show!. Here is a list of the songs JB sang. GET THE PARTY STARTED YOU TO ME ARE EVERYTHING VIVA LAS VEGAS DON'T CRY OUT LOUD UNUSUAL WAY SPIDERMAN MEMORY FIREFLIES DON'T RAIN ON MY PARADE GLORIA ESTEFAN MEDLEY LET YOUR LOVE FLOW MAN, I FEEL LIKE A WOMAN REMEMBER WHEN SO CLOSE (Duet) COPACABANA THE DOCTOR AND I RULE THE WORLD LET'S GET LOUD FROM THIS MOMENT I AM WHAT I AM Jodie sang CRY ME A RIVER, MAMBO ITALIANO, PROUD MARY, & NOBODY DOES IT BETTER

John Barrowbum
Met John at his concert at Manchester and also at the stage door at Blackpool. He is a gentleman, generous with his time and gorgeous. I wish I had asked him which face products he uses.I agree more songs would have been good, but he put in 110% effort in his shows. Had a magical time, left with beautiful memories, Also sat next to his parents in the theatre at Blackpool. They are also enjoying the ride to fame with their son, and why not! Thank you John you were worth every peeny, and more.

Song list
Rio2, Thanks so much for the song list! I really appreciate it. And believe me, I had a great time listening to John talk, he could read the phone book and I'd be happy, but 20 songs in a 2.5 hour concert was a bit disappointing after flying 7 hours to see the show.
