DAY 32
We got up at about 7.15am and headed down to the deli next door for breakfast. We both got bagels and juice. I just got plain cream cheese, Scott got his with Salmon. It was pretty good. We then grabbed a coffee from Starbacks before heading over to the nbc studios to watch the Today show being taped. We were pretty lucky as when we rocked up Matt Lauer and his co-host (not his usual one Meredith Vierra) were out the front interviewing Zach Galifakas from the hangover. There weren’t really that many people around and it was cool to see. Think we will be back another morning to see it filmed again. The good thing is you can see inside the studio as well and they have TV’s outside so you can see what is being broadcast. After that, we headed back to Times Square to buy tickets for the Hop on/Hop off bus touring Downtown. We jumped on the bus about 9.30am and sat up top. It was absolutely freezing up there, but we did have our thermals on. The bus drove past macys, madison square gardens, empire state building, soho, noho, greenwich village, wall st, battery park, south pier, east village, united nations and central park before dropping us off back at times square. The whole tour went for about 3 hours and by the end we couldn’t feel our feet or hands and were sooooo cold! We grabbed another coffee from Starbucks as we were so cold and then walked down to the Empire State Building. We went via the HBO store where i bought a True Blood t-shirt! We got to the Empire State Building and cleared security pretty easily and as i’d bought tickets online we got to skip the queue to buy tickets and head straight up. We only had to wait a few minutes for the elevator to take us up to the 80th floor. We then had to walk up 6 flights of steps to the viewing deck on the 86th floor. It was pretty packed up there, but after a little bit of patience we got to see all the views we wanted to. We headed back to the hotel and grabbed some lunch from a deli on the way - we both got panini’s which were nice. We wanted to get tickets to Florence and the Machine, so we picked up the address from the hotel and started to walk down there - Terminal 5 on 56th street. It was a fair walk, but we got there by about 5pm only to discover that there was no box office there to buy tickets....so plan A out the window. We decided we’d walk along West Road next to the Hudson River down to the Chelsea Brewing Company (about 40 blocks). It was a nice view most of the way and we got to the Brewery at around 5.30pm. We grabbed about 3 beers each and they were really nice. It was pretty quiet there as it was a Monday night so we decided to grab dinner somewhere else. We ended up on 8th street at a Mexican restaurant. The food was really nice and the margarita we had was pretty strong. Finished up with dinner about 9pm and hailed a taxi back to the hotel. By this stage we were really tired and ready for bed so called it a night!
