Well, 11 hours of flying time (about 20 minutes sleep total) later and we made it here safe and sound. I can't say the same for one of my suitcases, it should be delivered to the hotel Friday. Wonderful weather for day one, 70 degrees and sunny. I was prepared for Athens to be uglier and more Middle Eastern looking than it actually is - although the Greeks seem to have a special love of concrete. Our hotel is very cute, and is only a few blocks from the Metro. After checking in a sleeping for a couple of hours, we headed out to check out the neighborhood. We stopped at a cafe in front of the National Archeological Museum, where dad had his Greek coffee (which looks like mud), then off to a sidewalk cafe for moussaka and Greek salad. I have successfully attempted one of the four Greek words I know, I am hoping to pick up more during the trip. The people here seem to be very hospitable and talkative, even in broken English. We have internet access at our hotel, and we are currently at an Internet cafe, so I should be able to post often. We are going to try to get in a lot of sightseeing tomorrow and Saturday, as everything closes down for Easter. We are also thinking about renting a car to explore more of Greece outside of the city. Fortunately, I have my camera charged up and with me, so I should be able to post a lot of pictures tomorrow, I'll either post them here or Ofoto (if I can't figure out this site). Dad has already taken a charming picture of me in front of a large pile of garbage (the garbage strike is over for Easter), that will be first in the scrapbook!!

Another post tomorrow - miss you!

Love,
Kerri
