Bob found a new girlfriend the other night. He just celebrated his 65th birthday and is now into older women.

The straight-ahead jazz group - Dave Young Quartet - concert was pretty good. It took a while for them to get in a grove, but by the end of the concert they were great.

This and the previous jazz concert were held at a small venue in the 3-sided courtyard of an old hacienda that is now a museum. A wonderful place for a small concert except for the pillars holding the roof up. At best, we could see all but one musician at each concert. The really great thing was that the midday concerts were held in the shade. The bad thing was that they didn't allow cameras, so I can't show you any pictures. We sat in the second row, so I could have taken some great shots. One I couldn't take was of a saxophone player with the perfectly dim shadow of a chandelier on the wall behind him. Oh my shutter finger ached with desire.

We got really lucky last night. The philharmonic orchestra from Queretaro State played at a large outdoor venue that had free seating in bleachers at the back. We went just because we could and had nothing better planned. As it turned out, it was a orchestral/operatic/dance performance that portrayed Mexican history from the Aztec period to today. Each period was accompanied by dancing or enactments, including horses. Several fireworks shows sprayed the community rooftops with glowing embers.

We ended the evening with a late dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, Truco 7, which cost us $6.00 for a full chicken dinner (Bob didn't eat) and sparkling water. What a deal!

Tonight we plan to return to the same large outdoor venue in hopes of getting in to see the Ballet Folklorico of the University of Guanajuato. Getting in is iffy since the performers are local and it stands to draw a large crowd. I don't think we can still get tickets, so we'll have to hope there is room in the free section.

Tomorrow - on to San Miguel de Allende where we'll stay for 2 nights with our past hostess Nancy. We were saddened with the news that her husband, Owen, passed away in July. He was a wonderful man who will be missed by many.

Buenas Dias I thought about you, Bob, and sent best wishes yesterday on your birthday, then forgot to write. :( The music festival sounds great. Love the pictures! Connections
Loved the connection you made, Sue, with Balzac and the song from the Music "Yes, folks we got trouble, right here in River City. And that starts with T and that rhymes with P, and that stands for Pool!" I remember stuff like that, and forgot more intellectual references like Balzac. Among other things, Music Man is a delightful spoof on stodgy conservative small-town life a long time ago. I remember it from high school days. But we saw a very fun production of Music Man not that long ago. The music really holds up. Besides Trouble in River City, I really like "Seventy-six Trombones". Your adventures in Mexico continue to sound enticing. Keep on with the enjoyable experiences and great photos! I am in Monterey, visiting Dirk and Leah for my birthday. What a luxury to be able to spend a whole week here! Iz
