Today we went white water rafting in the canyon outside of Omis (The city of pirates)
The weather was perfect! We were all a little nervouse since none of us had been before. We met our "Captain" whose name we could not prenounce or remember,(but boy was he HOT), at a small agency and hopped into a van with the raft strapped to the roof. The drive up was frightening, one lane winding roads with cars squeezing next to one another on tight cliffs. Cara and Gina were both holding on for dear life. When we got to the starting point on the river, Gina was laughed at for wearing a seat belt. So we squeezed into our life suits, Dad put his on inside out, helmets, and life vests and headed down the river. The water was so clear and beautiful and the trout were plentiful. For the first hour or so the water was very mellow and calm and we got to take in the views that this beautiful canyon had to offer. Then we were kicked off the boat and had to walk 300 meters up stream while our captain took on these giant rapids that were too dangerous to take us on. Once we were back in the boat it was only a few more minutes till the real fun began. First we saw a series of waterfalls falling off the side of the canyon and then we steered the raft so that the waterfall was cascading directly on our heads. It was freezing but amazing to feel the natural power of water. Then we got a quick lesson on how not to fall off when we went down a bigger rapid. As we went down one rapid that was very narrow and sandwiched between two rocks he told us to sit down in the boat. Then it was like splash mountain we went down this chute and the water engulfed us. At one point Cara completely dissapeared under the wall of water. The last twenty minutes or so were like the first. Calm, serene, beautiful. I am sure we will all be sore tomorrow, but it was the experience of a life time!
