First off, let me just say that flying first class is really nice! Flying first class on British Airways is AWESOME!! Our trip from Seattle to Phoenix was so smooth (Alaska) that at one point I forgot I was on a plane. We hung around Phoenix for 3 hours, called home to bother Ellen and to see if she missed me yet…amazingly enough: no.
The flight from Phoenix to London began when we were ushered--yes, ushered, to our seats in first class. We had seats that had so much leg room that even Ted could put his legs up on the footstool comfortably. Then we were asked if we would like “sleep suits” since it was an overnight flight. After giving us a night box containing a sleep mask, socks, toothbrush and paste, mouthwash and face cleansers we were handed our dinner and wine menus.
Ted came around and sat across from me for dinner. They dressed the tray with white linen and our first course was lobster with mango salsa and cilantro oil. Ted followed that with Chateaubriand with wild rice and cherry Pinot Noir reduction. I had basil and marmalade-stuffed roast halibut with roast potatoes, in a citrus cream sauce. I’m not one for cream sauces and if I could’ve licked the plate without anyone seeing…..!
Later, the attendants came by to make up our beds for us. Our seats went completely flat and we settled in for the night. We had a traditional English breakfast (at 4am our time) before landing about 5:30am our time ('12:30 London time). It was raining in London so we couldn’t see much outside, but inside was a people-watchers dream! We saw people dressed in any combination you could imagine--one nun in modified habit. The only thing we didn’t see was a bikini….
The shops in the airport were very nice: Prada, Tiffany, Herrods--I held back since we are carrying around our bags J
I’m typing this about 20 minutes outside of Rome with Ted taking pictures of the Alps--not a lot of snow on them so maybe they aren’t the Alps???

I find it ironic that the "welcome to Italy" sign is printed in English. Are you sure they didn't send you to New Jersey by mistake?
