this is the first time that my entries flow seamlessly into one another. you know, i could have simply made one entry for the whole weekend, but that wouldn't have been as fun. i'm driven to post from as many different places as possible.

capri is gorgeous. there isn't really a good beach to go to, so if you're looking for hours tanning on a beach this certainly isn't the place for you. the beaches are few and far between since the island mostly has cliffs for edges, and when there are beaches they are super rocky.
we only spent a couple hours there, and i could have done with a little more time. i definitely suggest taking a boat ride to the blue grotto, and if you have time a boat ride around the entire island. i didn't go around the whole thing, but my friend did and the pictures are beautiful. the blue grotto is the most famous of the grottos and i took a boat ride just to there and back, but there are more grottos around the island.. all breathtaking.

the blue grotto is this natural cave in the cliff that you can take rowboats into. it has opening hours just like any other attraction, and there is a government boat stationed outside of it collecting money. 4.50euros. such a racket. it's a freaking cave! but whatever, it was terrific. you take this little rowboat through this little whole in the cliff and row around this dark cave and all you can see is brilliant blue water. very cool. except it definitely felt like a ride at disney. all the rowboats go around in a circle, and it feels exactly the same in there as it does in the pirates of the carribean, and i got drenched at the end! to get through the tiny entrance hole everyone has to duck down in the boat. of course i was the only loser in the front of the rowboat, and of course it was getting to be high tide, and of course a HUGE wave came and soaked me.. and my bag.. and my camera. it was fine, you know i love water, but i could have done with a warning, you know, so i could have protected my bag and turned off my camera. but it was ok, don't worry, the camera is fine. it just had mediterranean salt residue on it for the rest of the day. i say it adds character.

after the grotto, denise and i climbed up a thousand and a half stairs through a residential area to the center city where i had the best slushie of my life. really. it was lemon slush with freshly squeezed blood orange juice. it was kind of expensive, but so was everything on the island. tourist central.

from the center, we took a bus down to the other side of the island from the port we disembarked at. we found a little, rocky beach and went swimming in the mediterranean!!!!
aaaah! i'm so excited about that. i almost didn't because it was freezing, and because there were tons of these little jellyfish floating around and we didn't have any idea whether or not they would sting us. oh and because i'm an idiot and wore a bathing suit but didn't bring a towel. but i'm so glad that i did! i didn't get stung by anything and i went swimming in the freaking mediterranean sea!

if we had more time i would have loved to climb to the highest point on the island. i'll just put it on my list for next time. and if there is a next time.. i would also have liked to see some more of the surrounding area like naples, ischia, and what's that town.. starts with a P.. ah, i'll think of it.
