Ooh Ahh!
We're not in Kansas anymore! Oh wait, haven't been there yet, have we! With our usual impeccable timing, we arrived back in LA from Santa Barbara at the same time Matt got back from his morning appointments, so we grabbed a late lunch at In n Out Burger across the street, and headed off to Anaheim! The freeway traffic wasn't too horrific and we arrived at the Timon parking lot at 4pm, caught the connecting Lion King Tram to the entrance, and we were at Disneyland!
Juliet immediately decided she was seven years old and set off at a bounce, while Matt guided us directly to Frontierland and the first of our chosen rides. Jenny regretted her late night and lack of sleep and opted for easing into the afternoon gently, so we boarded the Jungle Cruise boat with our Skipper Katie providing witty commentary on a wide range of animatronic jungle creatures.
Then we lined up for the Indiana Jones Adventure (wait time 45 minutes.) It's odd, when you look at the line you feel that it will take forever but it actually passes fairly quickly. Perhaps it was the company 😊 The Indiana Jones ride was awesome. Starting off walking through a ruined temple, we boarded classic jeeps and set
On the Lion King Tram
We're going to Diiisneyland! Matt and Jenny try to contain their excitement. off up and down pitch dark twisting tunnels, past hair raising scenes and through a blow dart attack, with appearances by Indiana himself keeping us calm or providing instruction (do not look into the eyes of Majah!). A giant rolling ball came at us rather fast, but we survived that too and burst out of the ride keen for more.
Unfortunately the Pirates of the Caribbean ride was closed due to maintenance, which depressed us until Crystal informed us later that this is because they are adding characters from the movies into the ride, including an animatronic Captain Jack Sparrow! The ride re-opens in June. So for our next ride we made do with the Haunted House. Lots of cheesy spooky fun and bad puns. Some of the technology was pretty cool, we would have no idea how they made some of the ghosts work, and it's 50 years old!
After this it was almost time for the eveing parade, but after seeing the crowds we decided to spend the time waiting in the Space Moutain line instead. (1 hour.) It was an excellent ride! Whooping for joy, we veered round a spiral of ups and downs, whooshing
Waiting for Indiana Jones
Ju and Matt our host chill in the line for the Temple of Doom ride through in near dark, lit only by thousands of pin-prick stars, which refelected out to seem like infinite space. Very cool.
The stomach turning over, we headed to New Orleans Square for dinner, where all three of us chomped our way through Beef Stoo served in a Sourdough bread bowl, after which Juliet nagged until the Nightmare before Christmas Shop was visited. A whole shop of Nightmare Before Christmas! Very restrained she was, only buying a postcard - watch out - who did she send that to? Hehe, one lucky punter out there should be receiving it, assuming she remembers to post it!
After this there was just time to make our way to the Main Square to watch the evening fireworks display, which gives a little Disneyland history and featues themed fireworks for the famous rides. It was set to music and narrated by Julie Andrews (gulp) but was an enchanting display set off from behind the Enchanted Castle, including an amazing variety of fireworks, lasers, canon shots and even a real live Tinkerbell flying behind the castle.
One last ride - Juliet's sister had told her she must ride on the Teacups, so she dragged
We like teacups!
Ju and Jenny enjoy a civilised and refreshing ride in a teacup Jenny with her and off they went in a green-blue cup with flowers on the side, very classy. Jenny was feeling a little too full of dinner to experience the full stomach turning spinning of the ride, so we just sat back and enjoyed the novelty of skating round sitting in a giant teacup!
On our way out of the park we tried to buy some souvenirs but just couldn't manage it, and it was three tired children that boarded the tram back to the car. Juliet felt like she was still on a ride as she navigated the freeways back to Matt and Crystal's apartment.
We owe a huge big thanks to Matt and Crystal for the time and effort they spent on us in LA - a trip to Disneyland, dinner out, movies watched, and not least letting us crash on their couch and making us pancakes in the morning. Thank you so much for everything guys! Much love to Spaz the cat and Mia the dog as well 😊
