Hello everyone! Kerstin and I are now employed full time at a landscaping company! It is very relieving to have a steady job with hourly pay, something about knowing how much money you’re going to get at the end of the week is just nice. The work is physically demanding, but not a great deal more than what is required for kiwi fruit picking and pruning. We only work weekdays so Saturdays and Sundays are time for rest and relaxation (and updating everyone back home).

We’ve been doing the landscaping at criminal youth rehabilitation centre that is currently under construction, most of the work is just planting small plants and covering them with week mats, but yesterday and the day before we were laying turf. More accurately, I was hauling the turf off the pallets, the other guys were laying the turf. Heavy work but it’s great exercise and you’re even paid for it! (Go backpacking and you’ll learn to look at everything in a similar manner.)

Jobs are still a little scarce here so when Ken (one of the staff here at Just the Ducks Nuts) told us about 2 openings for full time work we jumped at it. Unfortunately there are 4 people in our group who all want gainful employment so we did the only fair thing we could, we drew straws. However, since we didn’t have straws we drew cards which we scattered across the table. Anika faced off against Kerstin and Timo faced off against myself. The reason we did it like this is because the girls both have vehicles and us guys are both about as mobile as our size 11 hiking boots allow us to be.

Timo and Anika are both working pruning kiwi fruit orchards, which doesn’t pay as much and is about a 40 minute drive away. I feel a little bad about that, but they will be working in the fish factory (paid by the hour) by Monday with any luck.

That’s all for now, drop me an e-mail if you want to know more!

Sounds like "turf" work! Maybe Skinny Dan will hire you when you get back. You'll have experience! Keep up the great blogs. Have you taken a peek at Randi's posts recently? If you need the link let me know, she has about 5 now. At the bottom of the page there is a grey box. The one on the left mean previous, if in an earlier post there will be a box on the right to go forward (Dutch). Take care of yourself! Love, Dad
