Finally Relaxing in Parque Tayrona

Last night I slept like a rock in my hamaca--I think I´ve officially mastered the art of sleeping one for a full night without waking up. After such an epic week to the Lost City and then more trekking through the jungle just to get to our camp site in Parque Tayrona, all I wanted to do was bask in the sun and relax. So this morning we took the 5 minute walk to the beach searching for fruit for breakfast. However, once we got to the beach it was absolutely desolate- the perfect, untouched beach juxtaposed with the lush green of the jungle was pretty much postcard worthy. Walking along the beach we passed a lone donkey just hanging out and then saw a little sign for a Panaderìa (bakery). As we reached the sign leading to the path we could smell the delicious aroma of freshly baked bread. Simonne and Brianne got pan de chocolate and I got pan de arequipe (arequipe is very similar to dulce de leche)--It was THE best bread I have even tasted. Who would have known it would be from a little bakery on the beach in the middle of a Colombian national park?
After savouring every last bite of our warm pan, we made our way to the piscina, where we could swim without potentially drowning from the strong riptides in Arrecife.
After another short trek through the jungle paths and we reached the piscina´s beautiful blue waters. It was only bout 10am at this point and it was already boiling hot. I spent maybe 20 minutes basking before making my way into the shade because it was sooo hot. After a little more reading and relaxing we decided to take the half hour walk to Cabo San Juan, which was an other camp site right on the beach and it was also gorgeous. We didn´t stay there long because Sim and I needed to get back to camp and collect our things for the 45 minute trek back to Cañaveral to get the van back to Santa Marta. Even on our day of relaxation we managed to trek for at least 2 hours through the jungle. So clean bed and laundry, here we come!
