Day 1 - April 02 (567 km)
We left home about 7am with a few tears and drove to Ararat for morning tea. We then drove to Bordertown for lunch. Arrived at Keith at 4 pm which wasn’t too bad going considering it was the kids first big drive. The activity books that you gave, Wendy have come in handy. Everytime I turned around Duane was doing it. Kiera has been watching some DVD’s and playing with her dolls. We lost a wheel cap on the caravan on the way to Keith so the van looks funny. To Wes and Amanda you will have to buy a bigger van as ours looks like a pimple compared to others. Gra decided to park next to a big fifth wheeler this night. Were we embarrassed!!! Duane was amazed with all the pink (salt) lakes. The caravan park was cheap and nice for only $19.50.
Day 2 - April 03 (543 km)
From Keith to Port Augusta was the next day and we did travel via Adelaide which we didn’t think we had to but it was a shocking trip. We tried to stop somewhere nice for morning tea and we
ended up in the Adelaide Hills with a van on. Not a good move. The garmin was playing up and the directions through Adelaide were woeful. Port Augusta is not much of a place so we are glad it was only an overnight stop. We are getting about 6.3 km’s to the litre towing so not too bad. Went past lots of wheat silos. Duane thought we were going past the same one everytime.
Day 3 - April 04 (422 km)
From Port Augusta to Streaky Bay. Lot’s of road trains on the way. Stopped at Kimba (a place half way across Australia).
Streaky Bay is a lovely little seaside resort and a must see to anybody. We are staying here two nights. We have a site backing right on to the foreshore. Graeme is in his element as there is fishing galore. Really nice beach and the pelicans come up and feast on the left overs from the fisherman.
Day 4 - April 05
Streaky Bay. Gra has just caught razor fish this morning that is a shellfish that taste like scallops. He hopes to catch some whiting this afternoon for our tea. I am
not holding my breath. We also went for a drive around the coast to places like Smooth Pool, Pt Labatt where the sea lions are and Murphy’s Haystacks. The kids thoroughly enjoyed. The weather is very unususal the sun comes out then it goes in and then it rains. It has been doing this all day. Not very cold, you only need a jumper on. Tomorrow is across the Nullabor - this will be interesting.
Love to everybody.
