Nomad: A person with no fixed residence who roams about; a wanderer.

Not that long ago someone once called me a Nomad, and at first I took it to be offensive. It wasn’t until I googled the actual meaning of the word the next day that I decided to interpret it as a compliment. In the last two and a half weeks I have slept in 8 different beds, 11 if you include two different overnight flights, and three chairs pushed up against each other in Johannesburg airport, (which is strangely more comfortable than you would imagine) and in every one of them I have felt as comfortable as ever. For me…this is what being a nomad is about. It’s being adaptable.

Over the next 12 months I am planning to call Kenya, the UK, and South America home as well as various places in between. For me this is the start of a year full of….well god knows what!!! The possibilities are endless and that’s what sends shivers up my spine. For the next three months I will be a team leader for 6 Australians on a group volunteer program for an amazing organisation called World Youth International. It’s something I have wanted to do since I started working for the organisation in their Adelaide office some 2 and ½ years ago and is probably the biggest challenge I have ever taken on. From there its travelling this incredible contient with my amazing sis, then a few months living and working in the UK, and then backpacking around South America. Bring it on!

So right now I am sitting in a tent in the middle of the Masai Mara… one of the most famous national parks in the world typing away on my little Acer notebook thinking just how amazing this world really is. One week you can be going about your business in Australia and only a few days later you can be in the middle of Africa about to go out see some of earths most incredible animals! And all you really need to make this happen is the will…(and some cash I guess). Last week before I left Australia I was apart of an amazing personal empowerment program (sounds wanky but don’t knock it until you try it) which looked a lot about will and how to ‘live your passion’.

Writing and communication is certainly one of my passions but up until now I have never really ‘lived it’ so to speak and I have been toying with the idea of writing a blog for sometime including in my previous travels. Actually putting pen to paper (well more like fingers to keyboard) at this very moment is well….to be honest making me a little nervous but what better time to start a blog. And someone once told me…you should do something that scared you every day. I think this counts!

More important one of the main reasons I am writing this is to say THANK YOU. I have had an overwhelming amount of support from family, friends, work colleagues, and people I have only just met (yes PEP’ERS of 2010… you know who you are) so I am hoping that in writing this I can give something back to them; either by sharing with them the next 12 months of my life and/or what I learn along the way. Its goes by a term I have just become to love… reciprocity!

So if you know me and are reading this now… I am saying a big thanks and happy reading, and if you’re a complete stranger who has come across this accidently, then that’s a little creepy but happy reading anyway. I am not sure exactly what form this blog will take as I go along but I promise to make it as entertaining/informational/and thought provoking as possible. Please feel free to leave your thoughts on anything or everything you feel like….or just simply say hi.

Here goes....
