additonal thoughts:

I should probably tell everyone I am actually staying in a hotel called Coconut Villa. There are other international aid workers here in addition to the SA team. I have the room designated "Palace" as it is a little larger than the others and contains 2 beds. (tonight I will have a roommate as a lady arrives who is working with a children's home somewhere in Haiti. She will be traveling a lot. There is a very small refrigerator in the room to store bottled water. It actually freezes them, which isn't all bad, since by the time you want a drink, it's beginning to thaw and is ice cold. The dining room is open air...there are trees and palm trees and a small pool. Lest you think I am in the lap of luxury, it's very old (especially the plumbing) and they put the air conditioner on for a while at night only. Electricity goes off often (all over PaP. This hotel was spared, although there are damaged buildings across and beside it. Food however is good - strictly Haitian, so I'm experiencing some sense of the culture. Breakfast this morning was porridge (sort of a very thin cream of wheat) with a handful of raisins. Really quite good. We only eat breakfast and dinner here. Lunch is at DHQ - consists of sandwiches & yogurt. All water is bottled. Fruit at dining room is exceptionally good...mangos, papayas, etc. I'm told by the longer term team members, the water they serve is bottled; ice made from bottled water, and I can be certain the fruits and veggies are ok. Sure hope that's true. So, don't feel too sorry for me...roughing it in a tent on a cot. However, it is HOT!!! and muggy, but so far the thunderstorms have been at night. Even toured the camp without boots yesterday.
