Church Rock
south of Moab, UT We drove north to State Hwy 211, a great road with scenery to die for. At the Needles visitor center for Canyonlands National Park we got our patches and stamps and found which overlooks were must-see and accessible while we were towing campers. The mountains, canyons, needles, mushrooms and other rock formations were in vivid shades of red, yellow, white and green. Kerry and I had been to Canyonlands before, but only the northern part, where you look down into the canyons. At the southern end, the Needles district, you're in the canyons, looking up.
Once we hit sensory overload, we headed back out the way we came, then north again to Moab, passing Church Rock, Wilson Arch, and Hole in the Wall. As we neared Moab and could secure a cell phone signal, I called several campgrounds before finally finding two sites available. Moab is mobbed this weekend, apparently May is their busy time, the month between too cold and too hot.
After setting up our campers and eating lunch, we drove to Island in the Sky district, the northern part of Canyonlands NP. By this time it was late afternoon and quite hazy. It was extremely windy,

Needles District, Canyonlands NP so maybe it was dust in the air that made it look hazy. We were sandblasted at several of the overlooks. I was hoping it was a facial dermabrasion and we'd be wrinkle-free, but no such luck. But we enjoyed the overlooks anyway. Then my camera battery died and I was unable to take pictures at the last few stops. You can bet I plugged in that charger first thing when we got back to camp.
It turned out to be quite a long day, but very enjoyable, and we're all pooped. Tomorrow, Arches NP
