The pottery on display may never have graced the table of royalty, but it is functional and beautiful and I am sure it was prized by its owners in the past. Surely it is now prized by the museum. I don't much care for items that WERE intended for royalty. I think I read somewhere that one way to judge the level of a culture is to look at ordinary everyday items and see if the people had time and desire to make their home items lovely. Obviously this culture had a love of color, form and beauty and passes anyone's test as to whether society had advanced to a high level. You saw this in the clothing and now you can see it in the pottery.
