Home again, home again . . . this will be our last entry for this trip. However, we plan to do another travel blog, when we go to Germany for our honeymoon in September. Let us know if you want to be on the subscribers' list.
We just want to let you know we arrived back home safely. Our last entry was our wedding day on Saturday. We had a wonderful, personable photographer for the ceremony - "Bob the Cameraman" - who shot two hours worth of pictures. We have no wedding photos to upload at this time. He said it would take him about two weeks to sort through all of the shots and send us the best ones to select from. I can't wait!
Back to the wedding day After the ceremony and photographs, Sandy presented us with a very large Santiago family tree chart, rolled up in a long cardboard tube so we could pack it easily. It was a reproduction of the chart that Don Ramón Rivera Bermudez, the Coamo historian, had made for him several years ago. (We never got to meet Rivera Bermudez, but when we were in Puerto Rico last year
we did visit his widow and saw the original chart in his study.) Rob and I then gave Sandy and Lucille a frame containing three photographs we had taken in Coamo in the town plaza. Sandy's father grew up in that town and would have been familiar with the scenes.
The four of us walked over to the Hilton Hawaiian Village, just next door, and celebrated our marriage at Benihana's. What a great finale! We wore our wedding clothes and leis (see photos in the last blog entry). By the way, Rob had not seen his wedding outfit until a few hours before (see photo). In keeping with tradition, we had decided to keep my wedding dress a surprise, and since his Aloha shirt matched the dress, the shirt was a surprise, too! (He had tried it on for sizing blindfolded!) 😊
Thanks to my sister, Ann, for sending a delicious basket of fresh strawberries and sparkling cider to our room, which perfectly complemented the chocolate volcano we had saved from the Bali Steak House!
Day after the wedding On Sunday, we spent most of the afternoon shopping in downtown Waikiki for gifts and souvenirs to
take home. A couple of hours were spent in the area called the "International Market," where there must have been 50 jewelry vendors and 20 Aloha clothing stores. We filled our shopping bag full and more!
Later that evening, I quickly donned the smocked, floral dress I had purchased at the market and we walked to Ruth Chris's Steakhouse for another fantastic dining experience. When he had made the reservation, Rob told the restaurant we were celebrating our first day as a married couple. Our table was covered with pink rose petals and we were served complimentary chocolate covered strawberries for dessert.
The journey home The trip home on Monday was uneventful. The flights were on time and the seating was actually comfortable. We changed planes in San Francisco and took the "red-eye" home, arriving at Dulles around 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning. We thank God for a safe trip, for the many blessings we experienced, and for those to come. Now we are dealing with jet lag, but have just about adjusted to EDT! We are so glad that technology has made it possible to share our wedding trip with you, and thank each and everyone
of you for tuning in to celebrate with us!
