OCT East-amusement parkOCT East-amusement parkOCT East-amusement park

Chinese Lady didn't see that our picture was being taken.
I feel like it has been awhile since I did a daily life blog so here it goes.

April 12th-Pete and I went with his students to OCT East Amusement Park in Yantian District. On the way there the tour bus got lost and all the teachers were yelling at him, in Chinese of course. Once we arrived all the students had their own tour guide for each class so the teachers were on their own for the day. We didn't get on many rides as the operations were very slow. Not that the lines were long just bad operations. They could learn a few things from Disney. It was actually pretty nice as far as China attractions go. They even had a Starbucks and Pizza Hut inside. We rode some Space Journey ride that I was thankful I had taken motion sickness pills because I still felt a little woozy after wards. Then we ate lunch which included free beer and a buffet style lunch, including chicken nuggets. Next we waited in line almost 2 hrs for a boat water ride which everyone got SOAKED. That is why everyone bought 10 kuai=$1.46 ponchos. The ride had 5 drops and even one going in reverse. I would say it was the best boat water ride I have been on. Later we sat in Starbucks and enjoyed an afternoon treat since we only had 1 more hour until we needed to be back at the bus. 4pm was departure time but we had to wait around for 7 teachers that didn't show up until 4:45pm. REALLY the teachers were late, we should have left them. On the way home we got these really tacky looking pen holders(see below) but we were thankful that we were even included in the day. The kids LOVED us being there and took lots of pictures with us.

April 13th No classes for me since my students went to OCT East this day. SWEET!!!! Pete got Monday off since we went to the amusement park when he normally teaches.

April 14th We had an interview at a language center near our Chinese class in Futian. Of course online it said 25 hrs per week, after talking with the director it was 25 teaching hrs and 15 office hrs/social events. Sorry if we wanted to work 40 hrs a week we would go back to
A MAJOR ProblemA MAJOR ProblemA MAJOR Problem

if I was in space
the US and make real money. We also met and went to dinner with our good friend Staci's Dad and sister who are visiting from Portland, OR and Southern Washington.

April 16thPete went to Guangzhou with our friend Marty, who speaks great Chinese. Pete will have to write a blog on this experience. I sat home watching TV online and wasting time in China.

April 17th I tutored Tim for one last session before his interview for a foreign language school on Sunday. He found out on Friday that he passed the written exam, so he had to write a personal statement and have a interview in order to get into the school. Still waiting on the results of his entry. After our hour lesson his mother, Lily, and I went to get a 2hr facial/massage. I am thankful to have such a great student since I get paid 200 kuai =$29.28 for the one hour lesson and get a massage/facial.

April 18th School worker finally came with a plumber today to fix our backed up drain in the bathroom after 3 days of requesting it to be fix. When we howered it took 2 hrs to drain, turned on the sink in the kitchen it flooded the bathroom floor, bathroom sink same thing and yes the toilet. LOVELY. Thank God they came to fix it.

April 19th I had a interview with a company in Beijing went great and got sent to round 2.

April 20th Pete had his interview today with same company as me yesterday. Come to find out they don't place couples as the same school and the closest schools to each other in Shanghai are 1 hr apart. NOPE sorry not doing it and thank you for wasting our time, yet again not what is advertised. No bait and switch laws in China I guess.

We still haven't heard back from our school about us returning next year and no one seems to know anything. We have more interviews this week and next week with schools, as it is all a numbers game as to getting a job here.

Good news is we got tickets to Taiwan for May 2-9th. May 3rd is Labor Day in China so we get Monday off, May 4-6th is Mid Term exams for our students and we don't need to be there. May 7th well lets just say we need to use all our sick days allowed. Never done this in my life but gotta use them here.

After mid terms we will find out who we are teaching as our students will decide if the want to study Art or Science. The students have been worried they won't have Oral English with Peter and I once they are done with exams, so we asked the English teachers today. Their response "No such plan as of yet, Maybe you will teach the same maybe not." Gotta love Nowism in China.

Well, it looks like no job in Shanghaui with that company! Isn't that crazy about the teachers being 45 minutes late to the bus!!!Those pen holders are quite the gift! Good job on the tutoring. Keep up the good work with your interviews! Good looking pork burger, Pete!Maybe someone would translate the newspaper article about your picture! Mom
