Since last time I wrote a lot has happened! I met a girl in Chiang Rai and she decided to join me in my travels to Laos. So then there were two of us! We headed to Chiang Khong on the border and got ourselves a 15 day visa for Laos. In Chiang Khong we took the tuktuk looking for a guesthouse called Uncle Bob's (mentioned in the Lonely Planet guide!), but the tuktuk driver didn't know where it was so he got lost. In the end we found it but it had been closed down and sealed up, so no wonder the driver couldn't find it, haha!

On Monday morning we set off on our journey into Laos. We took the slowboat on the Mekong River, 2 days with a stop at Pakbeng in the middle. Very tiresome, and although the scenery was beautiful, it was a rather tedious journey! But luckily we hooked up with a group of other people, all from Canada, and we ended up staying together in the same guesthouse here in Luang Prabang. There are 7 of us, five Canadians, one Swiss- South African (mmm...strange combination!) and me! Two of the Canadian girls are hardcore bikers, and have been biking around Thailand and Cambodia for a couple of months! Wow, what a thing!!!

Arrived yesterday and ended up in a guesthouse by the river. Five of us are in one room, and the two biker chicks have gone somewhere else! Went to the night market, and today we have just been chilling, and going to see some temples.

Luang Prabang is quite a beautiful city! Very different here from Thailand, a bit more clean and quiet. The people don't pull on you and try to sell you things the way they do in Thailand. And the architecture is different, more influences from French colonialism, and more proper houses, not just wooden huts, haha!

After this I will proabably head down south to Vang Vieng and then Vientiane. Don't know if anyone else will join me, but I don't mind going alone for a while. Feel like I have been with a lot of people lately, first with the German people, and now this group of Canadians. Might be nice to be on my own for a while after this.....think I am starting to appreciate being alone more now that I am always together with someone else!! That's why I am so grateful that I am travelling on my own!!!
