Day 1

According to the flickery screen infront of me we are at 1960ft.
The outside air temperature is 57ºF amd we are om am aeroplane that is apparently 1/10 of the size of Spain.
We are sat in our economy patterned seats in Madrid waiting for our 13 hour journey to South America.
As a result most of our surrounding travellers are Spanish, their tongues flickomg away in loud, excited conversation. Occasionally a fellow backpacker will shuffle past, blushing with iconic English embarrassment, before tripping into their seat.
"I´ve now been hit in the face, twice." Grumbles Jo, as she turns to scowl at the unsettled family behind her.
"Make that three." She says dodging between a duty free bag and a rucksack.
I smile and turn back to the screen to see an advert reading ´Ser o no ser´ ...to be or not to be. Quite an unusual statement, but then again the classical renditions of ´suspicious minds´blasting from the speakers remind me that the last thing i expect right now is sense.

As the flight gets underway, our aircraft soaring higher and higher into the clouds i start to drift off. However i wake to the all too familiar sound of ´The Road´by Frank Turner crackling in my ears. At first i think it´s my ipod but am amazed to see that i am actually hearing it through the channels in my seat! Fancy a spanish airline to play little english folk singer on their 10 track inflight playlist!

I feel so far from home. I am nervous and excited. (And slightly dizzy from the altitude?)

So here begins the journey.
(and i don´t care how cheesy that sounds)
