Wellington to Christchurch

Day 77: Friday, February 12th, 2010
Wellington, New Zealand to Christchurch, New Zealand.

Per Contiki brochure: "Board the Inter-Island ferry and do the north to south island hop through picturesque Marlborough Sound and Cook Strait to Picton. Then make sure your camera's at the ready for the spectacular views along the Kaikoura Coastline. If we're lucky, we'll spot one of the many sea colonies in this area. Then, via the Canterbury Plains, we'll head towards the city of Christchurch."

Today was a travel day. We took a ferry, the Interislander, from Wellington to Picton and then hopped on another Contiki bus and into Christchurch. The ferry crossing was uneventful and other than the beautiful scenery, boring as hell. Plus, not enough seats for everyone so we had to scrounge to steal 1 seat here and 1 seat there and carry them over to the one free table we found. Life's hard. We get to Picton, get on the bus and start going to Christchurch. We stop at Ohau Point and look at the seals, but other than that it was a straight drive thru. Dinner was at Speight's Ale House which was the restaurant that was attached to our hotel, Bealeys Hotel. Then we just hung at the hotel or at the restaurant. Alex went out to dinner/drinks with a friend that lives in Christchurch so Tara, Jen and myself just crashed in the room. Poor Tara chose poorly when it came to beds as hers had a duvet, but no duvet cover so all the ugliness was in plain sight. Plus, her pillow had recently gone thru the wash (which is good) so it had the lumpy cotton thing going on (which is bad.) Wish I could say I was a good friend and offered her mine, but no. If anything, Jen and I held on tighter to our duvets and pillows.
