Well we are now in Argentina. We arrived at the Brazilian side of the border in a place called Foz De Iguazu, tired after a night on a bus and needing somewhere to stay. We stayed in town at a cheap little hostel-hotel. After a quick sleep we went out on the town, only to return exhausted at 4pm. Tracy laid on the bed for about 2 minutes before her side of the mattress fell through the bed frame, with her on it. She was OK, but we then had to explain in our poor Spanish to the hotel manager how the bed had been broken. From the looks he, and the chap how fixed the bed, were giving us, they had come to their own conclusion!
***Tracÿ - And we were innocently just talking about the Falklands War!!!!***
The next day we went to see the waterfalls. The Brazilian side of the border offers a better view of all of the waterfalls, but still allows you to get pretty close in sections. Pictures below.
We crossed to the Argentinian side of the border on the same day and went to what has been billled 'the best hostel in
South America´. To be fair its more like a resort and situated in an former casino, with a massive pool out the front. Apart from the food, its pretty awesome, especially as our room has english tv and movies. It also, well at least last night, has a resident toad, that disappears back into a gap between the skirting board and the doorframe when approached. The toad is an unexpected addition to the other creatures we have found in our room including spiders (one of which was the size of my fist), geckos, millipeds (the length and thickness of your fingers) and lots of flying nasties.
On the Argentinian side, you get a lot more up close and personal (read wet) with the falls. Again pictiures below. Our trip on this side of the falls included a boat trip into the Devil's Throat (Garganta del Diablo) under the falls. No real pictures of this for obvious reasons. However there was a great deal of water and the waves were crashing into us. So much so that Tracy almost drowned when a wave caught her inhaling with an open mouth on our boat tour. After a few minutes she was
OK - another disaster averted - Phew.
***Tracy - just another interesting note for anyone reading this in the UK - people here do not queue - they just push in front of each other and dont care about you at the back. Will is starting to get the hang of this so watch out when we get back to London!!!***
