Buenos Aires! I made it!

I arrived at the hostel, Portal del Sur, at about 7pm - 27 hours after leaving canberra and four flights later. Ofcourse the first person I had to met was a aussie - who I shared my dorm with, along with a South African - who had the pleasure of telling me that their cricket team somehow managed to beat the record one-day total of 434 set by Ponto and the boys. Bastards!

So after a couple of beers up on the terrace patio that they have up on the roof here, I was off to dinner with a few more guys and girls from the hostel... and in typical Buenos Aires-style we didn´t actually eat until about midnight. This was followed my many more jugs of beer at some cool pub near Plaza Serrano in Palermo. It was about at this time I realised I had lost my credit card on the first night - I figured out that I must of left it in the ATM earlier that night because I was in full auto mode and just grabbed my cash from the ATM and walked away - but here you grab

your cash and then have to tell the ATM that you want your card back. I won´t be doing that again! 5am - end of night 1.

My first day (Tuesday) in B.A. was pretty eventful - I woke up at about midday with a hangover and it was raining, so I went down to the Bank to try and get my card back, but no-one spoke Ingles - I managed to find out that I had to come back the next day so no big deal really. But the second night was another big one - a group of about 12 from hostel went first to a Irish pub (yes, they have them everywhere!), then we went for dinner at this great Argentine BBQ (Parilla) restaurant and had a huge, juicy, tender steak that cost about $8. This was again followed my more drinks in some other pub and a couple beers and ping pong in the hostel when we got back. 6am - end of night 2.

I had good intentions of getting up early on Wednesday and going on the free walking tour of B.A. but I couldn´t drag my sorry arse out of bed. But I did get my credit card back! Went down the bank and they had it waiting there - sorted! Later that afternoon I went down to the Recoleta Cemetary, the famous place in B.A. where they have huge tombs for famous and significant people in B.A´s history, including Evita. The design of these tombs are just extrodinary, but it is somewhat bizzare walking and looking into the tombs where you can see the coffins of these people (although I think they might be just for show and the real ones buried - i don´t know). Walking back from Recoleta (which is one of the the richer areas of B.A.) you see how this place it known as the Paris of South America. Amazing patisseries, designer clothes stores, outdoor cafes on the street corners... it all seems very European - even though I haven´t been to Europe, it´s what I imagine it to be 😉.

The next day was also uneventful - it was absolutely pissing down so I couldn´t really walk around, but I did go for a wander down Florida Ave - a shopping area that goes for 7 or so blocks with everykind of shop and

food outlet possible... in the evening I caught the subway down to the bus terminal to hop on my bus for a 16 hours bus ride to Puerto Iguaza. I had a cama seat which basically means it is huge and almost fully reclines - sort of like a sky bed - and with dinner and breakfast provided, albeit really bad airline food. Goodbye Bueno Aires, see you in few days time!
