Ok bit of a late start today. As they have scones over here to go with your sausage and eggs I decided to have them with jam which was nice.
So had our hot choclates and headed down to the Empire State building. Walked straight in and up the lifts in no time. There were so many barriers for the massive lines they must get here. So yes it was very nice looking at the views from the top and recognizing some of the places we had been.
So as we have a 3 day bus hopon/hopoff we jumped on the downtown one again. I like listening to the guide and learning about what things are, who lives there or the history of a place. Got off in Soho and was caught up a little bit in the shopping!!! Everything is alot more reasonably priced over here and expecially with the 50% sales. Had some lunch from one of the food van on the side of the road, yummy kebab. So grabbed a few bargins and realized we were eating into our valuable time.
So we jumped back on another hopon/hopoff bus and got off to the 9/11
site 'ground zero'. The site was all boarded up as they are building the new towers there. We visited the remorial shops with the pictures, videos and artefacts from the day. It was very sad and the errie feeling reminded me of the one I got in Cambodia at the Killing Fields.
We then walked down to the Finacial District and went to the Bodies exhibtion. We had done this before in melbourne but went in again as it was included in our pass (normally like $30!). So we walked around looking at the all the real human bodies which had had their skin peeled off and you can exmaine all the mucles etc. As we had done it before we were quick through. I took advantage of the gift shop buying some stuff for school.
Walking back to the Straten Island ferry we went to the New York Police department museum which was good. Then onto the ferry which is like a free shuttle service to Starten Island so we went on just for the veiws past the Statue of Liberty and caught it staight back which turned into nighttime so saw all the pretty lights. It
so spectacular all the lights of Manhatten from a distnace. Once off the ferry we saw the last hopon/hopoff bus coming round so we flagged him down in the middle of an intersection and he let us on!
So took the bus back up to Times Square. We then decided to take the night tour back downtown and into Brocklyn. With little time before it left we grabbed a slice of pizza for tea. As we had seen alot of this already a few times it was a bit repitive but nice to hear a different perspective of things and look at things we had missed. We both nodded off at stages of this tour. Again the lights in Brooklyn looking into Manhatten were soo cool.
So 2 hrs later we got back to Times Square and went to the Maddum Tusaads Mesuem. Again we had done this in Vegas so got through it fairly quickly. It cost was worth $36!! But we got it free with the pass. This pass is paying itself off very well. Another late night back at the hotel and with only 3 full days left we still have a lot more to
do so we are actually sitting down planning what we will be doing and when so we can get it all done. The 3 hr shopping detour today was not part of Benns plan!!! Weather was good today, like 7 degrees for us, in the late 40's for them. Not bad when we were expecting minus degrees and barely reach 0. Dealing with the cold well.
