Today we did the uptown tour. We walked into Times Square and jumped on the hop on/ hop off bus. This was around the Central Park end of town. So we went along the upper west side and thru harlem. We got off just before it ended at Central Park and went to the zoo there. It was a nice little zoo with some animals we had never seen or heard of before which was cool. The polar bears were cool. Then into the kids zoo where we took some crazy photos. We then decided to hire a tandum bike to ride around the park and visit some of the surrounding attractions which were included in our New York pass. So we rode down to Boat House which is a lovely restuarant looking over Manhatten and a lake (which was iced over). It was so cool to see lakes iced over.. wierd. Had lunch here and then got back on the bike. Rode around to the Mesuem of Art which was not very interesting at all (well at least for us). I recon we set a record in the smallest amount of time spent there. We had fun trying to copy
the statues (which may have been insulting to those who sat around them listening to a speech about them while trying to sketch them!). We then rode dwon to the Museum of New York which again didnt impress us. We then went for a decent ride in the park up and down the hills which was challenging in this tadum bike which gears didnt work all that well and it was an extremly heavy bike. We visited strawberry fields a tribute to John lennon and where he was shot. Returned the bike back after 3 hrs and then went to the Museum of Natural history which actually was quite cool. There was like only 45 mins left before it was shut and we are like we will be out in no time but we didnt have enough time! So we have to go back there. There were heaps of stuffed animals which was really cool as you could study them up close witout having to worry about them at a zoo where you can hardly see them or when there sleeping. There was dinosaur stuff here too which was good. So we headed back down into the park and went
ice skating at the trump ice rink. After this we headed back into Times Square and saw that Mary poppins started in 15 minutes so we quickly lined up at the half price tickets and bought some! Bottom level 10 rows back in the middle, bingo. Grabbed some Maccas for tea (first time here) and then went to the show. After a big day we both snoozed off, but it was a great show which we both enjoyed. Back to the hotel and to bed at about 1am which is about standard at the moment.
We are staying in the Holiday Inn Express 232 West 29th St - between 7th and 8th Ave.
(Not 31st St as the dam Hotel confirmation voucher said!)
